Sara's House - In Production

Hello,
My first CURRENT TV commission... so I thought I'd share the joy with you as it unfolds.

A few years ago, I read a story of how an African natural root bark used for psychoactive rituals, had an unexpected side effect in that it helped with Heroin withdrawal, amongst other addictions. The ability of Ibogaine to interrupt chemical dependence was first noted in the West by Howard Lotsof, who for 30 years battled to bring the drug to public attention.

Being classed as an unlicensed, experimental medication here in the UK, I looked to Holland for more information, and found Sara Glatt - self proclaimed 'Iboga Mother'. Sara is a single mum of five kids, and has an open house to a variety of addicts, with many people travelling from all over the world to be cured of their particular addiction.

The side affects can be severe, with vomiting and nausea, but through an intense emotional journey, many people claim to have kicked their habits.

I travel to Holland next week, where we'll see the process through characters undergoing the treatment... pop back and see what unfolds.
Will be posting pictures... No vomit I promise.
You can see that when the pod's finished.

Wish us luck.

  • That will be a very interesting pod indeed, narz., I do look forward to seeing it. You will be having an extraordinary experience, too, of that I am convinced.

I've been mentioning ibogaine as an effective treatment for all kinds of addictions, especially hard drugs like heroin, for many years on various websites, blog comments and discussion boards. Ibogaine is also used in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, as well as for spiritual development and growth. The West African origins of Iboga (the name of the shrub, also known as "bois sacré" - sacred wood) in initiation as well as treatment of all kinds of medical conditions both physical and mental - which makes sense since practically all diseases are psychosomatic at their roots or contain a psychosomatic component - is most interesting.

The Iboga initiation and therapies are practiced mainly in Gabon, but also in some parts of Cameroon and of the Congo. It is an ancient knowledge and ritual that originally came from the Pygmies. Certain amazing constants are experienced by practically all who take Iboga or ibogaine, during the visionary stage, with like visions of like characters both spiritual and from the flora, with like names - even though some of these people, especially in the West, have absolutely no cultural or other connection to these specific characters... or so I have heard and read in several different reports.

The enclosed video crosses back and forth between the Western ex-drug-addicts' experiences and scenes from a therapeutic/initiation Iboga ritual in Gabon. An Iboga priest also expounds on what part of the Iboga plant is used (the second "skin" below the surface "skin" or bark of the Iboga roots), and later on how Iboga is used in different ways according to what the patient/initiate's weaknesses, needs, character, etc., are - in a sense, Iboga priests will provide taylor-made initiations/therapies.

Best of luck in your excellent endeavour.

  • Day 2 already... limited internet access proving challenging.

Thanks for the response Vierotchka... will watch the video when I get the chance.

I travelled to Breukelen, Holland, with a good friend Swany, who was interested in the potential for Iboga as both a spiritual journey to explore, and to see if it might help him stop smoking marijuana. Although this type of 'addiction' is not as severe and debilitating as some, the ability for Iboga treatment to rapidly reduce the immeditiate effects of any withdrawal, opens this natural root bark up to a variety of beneficial uses - both physically and emotionally.

Having arrived in Breukelen, we were picked up by Sara from the train station, to be taken to her house in the countryside. Me wet with a guy called Jasen from Australia, who having done the treatment four years ago to aid in the withdrawals of a 23 year Methadone addiction, travelled back to see Sara for the first time.
Whether you agree with the idea of using a drug to cure another drug addiction or not, seeing a person cured from his lifelong addiction through Iboga is proof enough that this has the potential to really help people. The system decided there was nothing more they could do for him, but Sara's treatment has turned his life around.

Now in our second day here, it has been nearly 24 hours since Swany took the Iboga dose under Sara's careful supervision, and he's doing fine. We've been documenting the types of visions he is experiencing, and will be looking forward to a de-briefing once the effects start to wear off.

  • I recently saw the excellent documentary made when Sunny seeked help for his weed addiction from Sara's Iboga treatment. Me personally, have been abusing drugs for around 16 years and have tried everything to rid my self of the desire to score and to get of methadone which was originally prescribed for heroin abuse. Being on methadone is restricting on life as you have to keep regular appointments and visit the pharmacy, which makes working and maintaining a normal life hard. I want to see how I can also make the trip to Sara's House and hopefully get to a mental state of pre-drugs. Please help, you have my e.mail.
