Talk about harsh punishment. Arizona State’s athletics director Lisa Love made the decision Thursday night to cut the entire ASU cheerleading squad after a photo showing some of the girls on the team modeling in bra and panties surfaced on a popular gossip blog.

This really is a travesty. If they wanted to cut some people over this how about cutting the admissions staff who has consistently brought in the best looking high school ladies year after year for at least a decade or so. I wouldn't suggest doing that either though. In the end, you gotta let this stuff slide.
-
Oh so they can only shake there money makers for the school I guess.
-
WEAK. I've seen more ass in a Victoria's Secret commercial.
-
They should keep the cheerleaders and cut their players. Go Bears!!!

I've seen more risque things on Grey's Anatomy!
However, the cheerleaders probably agreed to some kind of "Golden Rule" or morality clause when they joined the squad. Perhaps a school code as well. -
It's hot in Arizona. You have to sit in your underwear. Is it their fault someone had a camera?

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree with one of the commentators from the link...
"[Those girls] did more for ASU recruiting in one photo than the whole athletic department could in a year..."
A little harsh Arizona State. -
wow...haha maybe they shouldn't be cheerleaders if they want to take these types of pictures. I guess they are considered "althetes" ..so they have to watch what they do

I don't get it, are college faculty naive or what? we're talking about years of college liscentiousness here, these people are tripping over a couple of pics that are far from soft core porn. They act as though they aren't aware of the crazy parties that go down, college students engaging in more than risque activity. Please, this is petty, they were probably discovered by a dean who resents not being in his or her prime anymore!
Think about the photos that have yet to be found, or video even... Frat party videos, chug chug, if they think bra and panty's are risque? they should stop any further investigation...
Those girls are extremely hot by the way, X .2 degrees:)-

i wonder what she would have done if she saw their girls gone wild spring break video...
-
Class aside, if you’re going to strip down to the underwear and pose rear out to the camera you should at least be smart enough to get paid for it. Dumb girls, amateur pose, no points.

What the hell? There all of age and can make independent decisions without the schools consent at least thats how it should be, but ya know i guess the school can dictate private life.

If this were a bunch of Arizona State football players posing in underwear for an online pic, this wouldn't even have been news.

I think that it is important that schools have clearly defined policies taht apply in cases such as this one. Also, the policies should be strictly enforced. Public outrage is minimal when those who break the rules are fairly punished.
-
lol whats the big deal?
-
Good for ASU. Being in college doesn't give you a free pass to act like an ass! Whether they like it or not, they are representatives of their school. If this were some sort of artistic shot with too much skin(ala the Miley Cyrus fiasco) it would be defensible, but this is clearly a classic Girls Gone Wild hoochie pic. I'm sure their families are proud! They should be ashamed of themselves.
-
So, women are supposed to be ashamed of sexuality?
Again, I say if this was a bunch of guys from the Spirit Squad or whatever posing in thier underwear it would have been overlooked. But because it was a bunch of college cheerleaders sticking thier butts out, it's something to be ashamed of and enough to disband the whole team.
If sexuality is something to be ashamed of then turn off your TV and do crossword puzzles. People need to get a grip, this stuff is trivial compared to other crap that continues to go on in this world.-

See I thought being in college did give you a free pass to do stupid stuff like this. As long as their were no minors involved...who is the college to tell these women what they can or can't do. lifestudent is right...seriously doubt this happens if it were the guys from the swim team making a calendar. Wasn't that the plot to some movie? Oh...well.
-
Once again, they are showing their backward thinking and their inadequates in dealing with moral issues in these modern times. If they truly wish to curb that form of behavior or prevent it from progressing any further, then (as one reply already mentioned) they should have had a moral clause as part of joining the cheerleader squad. And they really need to present their side of this issue in an open forum such as this one, to prevent any misinterpreting the reasons for their actions.
-
WTF?
-
In all fairness isn't one of the main aims of cheer leading to be scantily clad, sexy and full of team spirit! Could it not be argued that this photo encapsulates those elements?
-
Just curious...
What if they were wearing swim suits?-

I don’t think we wear swimsuits under our clothing or make them out of lace but that is kind of unfair because I do get what you’re saying. At the same time a lot of people are up in arms because they perceive that they’re witnessing a war against sexuality. I think they are wrong too. This has a lot more to do with class than anything else. You can be sexual and at the same time have some sense of decency.
I’ve watched porn and enjoyed it but I’m certainly not going to treat my girlfriend like a porn star. So all in all I’m not going to condemn the actions of this school board. Good for you guys. I can respect the fact the you don’t want trashy cheerleaders. -
What would the school have done if the chicks were wearing bikini's? Seriously, my swimsuits show off more than that. And why doesn't the school actually crack down on something worth while, I mean, come on its a college campus, there are kids doing a lot of crazy stupid illegal things, and its the cheerleaders that get in trouble for what? wearing underwear? come on.

They're not wearing bikinis, and they're not at the beach. Changing the context of the situation doesn't make it right. These girls are sexually objectifying themselves, period.
-
Cut the team!? Id give them each a Popsicle and do the shoot again!
But then again I would be a gracious and generous cheer leading coach!-

I think that there's a huge double standard here.People are always talking about how athletes get away with murder.Had it been some Black athlete in his boxers, groping his crotch, there'd be an outpour to crucify his Blackass, but because these appear to be a group of just having fun, innocent looking white chicks from next door,"they're just having fun at the slumber party". Personally,I really could care less about the photo, but they are cheerleaders representing Arizona State University, and just like the athletes, they do have a code of ethics to uphold.I played college and professional football.I'm not just shooting my mouth off.THESE GIRLS LOOK GREAT, BUT THEY WERE DEAD WRONG.
