The mysterious circle of stones that rises on Salisbury Plain near here has stood as an archaeological marvel for thousands of years, its origins and purpose shrouded in the mists of history.
But a just-completed excavation of Stonehenge, the first within the ancient circle in more than 40 years, could provide some of the first reliable explanations for one of the greatest wonders of the prehistoric world.

stonehenge is insanely mesmerizing.it seems like there has to be a message that has been left to us. in all our modern genius we seem to have lost our connection to the primitive.
-
i love to go there to scream in the rain with naked sweaty men during the soltice.

It seems that the devil buying the stones from a woman in Ireland is the obvious likely origin. "Devil goes to Ireland" would be a great title for the film version...
-
I read where it was used for many things, like soccer games.

Is it really the Stonehenge where the demons dwell, and the banshees live, and they live quite well?

I think of things like the places where we 'dump' or store radio-active materials - how do we mark such places to insure people 4,000 years from now stay away? There are warning signs, but they could go unnoticed or misunderstood. So, maybe a powerful 'energy' would convince people to go to extraordinary lengths to make sure they 'makred the spot' for future generations. The problem is, we don't know what's on the 'spot' - yet.

I think we are way more pemtive today then we were back say 4000 or 5000 years ago just look at the Sumerians

Inhabitants of the star date (insert number here) will wonder about the remains of wrigley field or something. It is important to respect the fact that stonehenge spirital to some people and reguard it as a holy place on the earth.

how did these huge stones get moved that far? i mean 4 tons over 250 miles? thats amazing!!
could it be that they had some truly powerful energy source that helped in the transport? i have never heard a good explanation of how these stones or the ones from the Great Pyramids were moved.
there are so many awesome things that stonehenge could have been a marker for, and its probably all of them. gathering, healing, intention to build, solstice, equinox and ritual. neato....-
