Howard Dean - Fox news is "shockingly biased"

Howard Dean pulled no punches in telling Fox what he thought about their coverage, calling it "shockingly biased" at one point in the interview.

DEAN: What I'd say is this: we stayed off Fox for a long time because your news department is, in fact, biased...I think it was the right thing to do, because there are some things in the news department that have really been shockingly biased and I think that's wrong and I just say so right up front.

Is the guy right or will his comments cause the democrats further damage? Check the link for the full video.

More than shockingly biased. Though bias is now certianly widespread with clarity in such events as the abysmal ABC debate last month with Clintons former communications director as a moderator. The same holds true at Fox. The fact that a Bush press secretary was a comentator for the network and that his chief of staff karl Rove has a place at the network, and that president bush has a cousin in the news department, or that Roger Ailes is a republican operative, those are objective facts and the truth is neither fair or balanced in this matter Fox news is a right wing news network. Or at least is right leaning in its coverage.

  • Fox news, cnn: all of them are bias in some way. Fox is the only one that has a conservative bias. But they are starting to change or so i think one moment they [Fox] were talking good about mrs. Clinton, but then on other shows they went back to their old ways. Fox make up your mind!!!!!

  • Thank you, Howard Dean. They are more than biased, they are criminal conspirators to me. Too bad Clinton and Obama don't think so.

  • He's right, but they aren't the only ones. MSNBC is so far up Obama's but my TV smells after it's been on.

  • of course he's right!! the guy is brilliant and it should have been him up against bush in 04 and not f*cking Kerry.

  • he was tryin in 04 but that picture or the video that goes with it is the reason he didnt get the nomination

  • That was a preview of noise politics. Imagine if he'd had a preacher or had ever visited Bosnia. I do like the man, the idea of a fifty state strategy was heartening. My home state has had its first campaign visits in almost a decade this year, and if Dr. Dean hadn't laid that groundwork to make every state competitive I don't think we would be seeing the historic election that we are this year. Not just for democrats either, opening up dialogue in states where democrats generaly do poorly has lead to republicans having to speak out more and not take thier positions for granted. I think thats powerful and important, that everyone feel as though they have a say, that nothin is set in stone.

  • Doesn't everyone know that Fox is really just an Americanized spelling of Faux? Come on everyone, we all know Faux News is purely for entertainment purposes.

  • Fox news is Infotainment. And watching Fox News is a complete waste of time unless you are conservative and looking only for what you want to hear.

But to play devil's advocate...Don't you get a different spin on every story from every cable news source?

Bottom line: Cable News is convenient but it does not make US citizens free and self-governing...the central idea behind Journalism.

  • Keep in mind, Dean was also defending the two candidates going on the network. He said, as many have on this site, that it is important to reach out to the disillusioned voters who still watch that channel. He's right on both counts.

  • Hmmmm, that's what I've thought for years. You go Dean.

  • Love me some Dean!

NEWS FLASH! All media outlets are biased. Pick the one that most agrees with you and keep your eyes on the enemy...

  • Yes, Howard Dean and Fox News are biased against Hiillary Clinton...OR THEY WOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED HER AND THE PEOPLE OF MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA VOTERS TO HAVE NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THEIR DECISION/VOTE ON THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY'S. THE DISENFRANCHISEMENT OF THIS CAMPAIGN IS A DISGRACE UPON US ALL. IT IS DISGUSTING HOW FIXED IT AND THOSE WHO PREVENT A RE-VOTE ARE.

  • Every news source I have seen out there has an agenda of some sort. At least, at Fox, debate is presented between BOTH sides. If Dean is saying that only Fox is biased he is wrong. Of course, I never thought he had a real grasp of reality anyhow.

  • Crazy! Although I do believe FOX news is biased, I believe all news networks are biased and in reality if you think about it, every person can be biased.

  • exactly there all biased fox is conservative most of the other news orgs are lib, and thats the problem they should all be unbiased and there not. as much as i cant stand fox promoting the repubs its hard to watch chris matthews get on his knees every night and pleasure obama

  • FOX Noise is only biased towards white, protestant land owners and big-titted, small-brained blondes, with years of experience on the pageant circuit...

IMHO, those would be the exact same biases our federal government and television watching audiences have as well.

What you want, is what you get.

Why do you think GM still sells Suburbans?

  • Although most media outlets have some degree of bias, FOX News has a history of being obnoxiously conservative and overly sympathetic towards the Republican party. Just look at the founder Rupert Murdoch, he was practically obsessed with Ronald Regan and made massive donations to his campaign. The CEO of FOX News, Roger Ailes, was the head media consultant for the campaigns of Regan and George H. W. Bush.

  • Fox news is hilarious! Ever want a good laugh, just turn them on and see how clearly delusional they are. Not they're point of views, but the fact that they actually truly believe that they are giving us the news without any slant or bias. Delusional and Republican are becoming quite synonymous these days.

  • Fox new = Right Wing Dialogue! Howard Dean is just speaking the truth.
    surfpub2001
  • it seems like most news orgs have their own bias or spin on things and they probably always have but Fox news anchors and commentators are just blazingly obvious sometimes as if they think that their viewers will blindly believe what their saying... maybe we will???
    xenomode
  • Yes, Outfoxed is a perfect example of FNC's bias towards the Neo-Con perspective.

They want Hillary to run against McCain so bad they are about to pee all over themselves with anticipation. But the Dem primary drags on......

  • Although Fox is biased, they still have something to bring to the table. O'Reilly, although crazy, does ask important questions. He may distort the answers but thats for an intelligent listener to decipher. If you can't, quit watching t.v..
    mposs
  • Yeah, O'Reilly brings some interesting things to the table like telling his guests to "shut up", blatantly insulting them, and propagating his extreme conservative viewpoint.
    hot_soup25
  • "If you can't, quit watching t.v..."??

I didn't know the news was a puzzle that needed to be deciphered.
    Neghie
  • Then you are ignorant. Every thing put on t.v. has a spin on it and if you don't see that, it obvious you do not have the ability to think for yourself.
    mposs
  • People have the right to watch Fox if that's how they like their news served up (biased to the right and embellished with flags and John Philip Sousa musical stings). But O'Reilly is a tremendous gas bag. He's not a journalist, he a bully. If there were any justice in the world he'd be sent back to the tabloid tv cesspool he came from.
    krag2112
  • Case and point about O'Reilly bringing good information to the table: Hillary Clinton's interview.

The point is: She answered the question's, not O'Reilly.
    mposs
  • Wow, how'd you guess? I'm sitting on somebody's lap right now with they're hand up my ass, telling me exactly what to say and think. I'm ignorant because I, as you say, can't see that everything on tv has a spin on it?
Sir, if I didn't think for myself, I'd be shoving God down your throat, hating homosexuals, be a straight democrat and go around telling everyone they're ignorant, because we slightly disagree. All media may be biased, but at least they don't 'proclaim' to be completely and unequivocally unbiased.

Here's how O'Reilly treats the son of a port authority worker who was killed on September 11th and who had the temerity to disagree with Bush Administration's plan for dealing with the 9/11 attacks. Starts out okay, but then takes an ugly turn. Judge for yourself.

  • I saw something on the news today and thought I would drag this thread out of the closet.
Some here think that Fox News is a biased program. I guess this is an example that ones own bias influences their opinion. Those who feel this way about Fox probably have a difference of opinion with McAuliffe:

"It doesn't do you any good," McAuliffe demurred. "You know what - every independent study has said that this is the most biased coverage they have ever seen in a presidential campaign. Clearly it has been a biased media, no question about it. I have said this - Fox has been one of the most responsible in this presidential campaign -- I have said that all along.''
