The UN relief agency for Palestinian refugees is to suspend its food aid distribution in Gaza because of a lack of fuel caused by the Israeli blockade.
"We have exhausted our stocks of fuel, and are therefore forced to stop our food distributions to 1.5 million inhabitants in the Gaza Strip," Chris Gunness, UNWRA spokesman, said.
More than 80% of Gaza's population relies on humanitarian assistance, with UN food aid going to about 1.1 million people; a high proportion of them are children.
Israel imposed a punishing blockade on the Gaza Strip after the Hamas movement seized power in the territory nearly a year ago, allowing only a minimum of basic supplies through the crossings.

This is extremely disconcerting...
I wasn't aware that 80% of Gaza's population relies on humanitarian assistance. What are the Israeli people going to do when their blockade initiates the death of thousands of starving men woman and children? Is that considered a "success"? Is that a plus when trying to curb violence???
That is just unbelievable. A tremendous shame... -
Fuel should never get in the way of helping starving people.

The number of people that rely on humanitarian assistance surprises me. What's happening does not. These groups of people have been fighting for a very long time. Blockading and starving a nation is a way to get them to submit without firing off shells. It's not pretty and hopefully things settle down before too many people die of starvation.

Because clearly, a policy of mass starvation of innocent people won't create any resentment at all. And it would clearly end all conflict now and in the future.
Sorry guy, that's piss poor logic and a horrible way to think about human life. I'd like to think people are a little more significant than bargaining chips for religious conflict.
