How sick can they get?

The US military has built a luxury yet dirt-cheap holiday resort in Guantanamo Bay, with souvenir shop and Walmart and all, for servicemen and servicewomen as well as the families of those who are employed to build the torture and other facilities there. Only psychopaths can come up with such ideas.

  • Wow, that is just incredible how far they're willing to go to get money. Why would you make a torture facility a tourist attraction? Especially for families, possibly children. Our only hope is that it helps boost our economy...Yeah right.
  • The current economic malaise crowned by the high price of gas has eclipsed the war in Iraq and its collateral issues as the top concern of voters. How fortunate for the Republicans.

An election that once appeared to hinge on high minded ideals and principles and a discussion of who we are as a people and where we are going as a country has now degenerated into a quest for cheaper gas.

i doubt that the fate of a few ragheads that are probably guilty of something will enter into the consciousness of more than a handful of americans.

  • This article is ridiculous. It would be one thing if all these "sick souvenirs" said 'from Guantanamo Bay Prison" but they don't. Guantanamo bay is a military base. Thousands of people live there. This 'resort' is just an attempt to make life a little easier for those stationed there. As for the merchandising it is no different from the items one can buy in say, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, or Agana, Guam. The items depicted, especially that girls shirt are all available at most military bases, with their respective names printed on them.
The thing that gets me is this article makes it sound like this place was built as some kind of cruel joke. It's a just a home for the people who live there.
Also, this isn't anything new, the 'resort' has been that way for years, the author of this article is only trying to make you mad.
Not everything the Military does has some sick and twisted hidden plan behind it.
Lastly, the reason this 'resort' is so cheap is because the military isn't attempting to profit from it, and they only charge guests for upkeep fees, that don't include labor, which is of course largely volunteer or provided by organizations that help disabled or handicap individuals find safe and steady jobs.

  • You know, in a weird fit of irony. It's our U.S. Soldiers doing this, yet I can't understand how they can call themselves Americans. I doubt this is what the fore-fathers had in mind.

  • What Keitarusm is saying is true.

This article was written to get people angry - and buying papers.
It's brimming with spin and misinformation.
Also, it's from the Daily Mail.

Don't let parasitic tabloid reporters into your brain.

  • I agree with Keitarusm.

Whatever else may be going on there, Guantanamo is a military base, and things like this are a way to make life easier for the soldiers stationed there and their families--the greater majority of whom have little to no say in where they are stationed or what goes on there. It isn't part of some hidden agenda.
