Indian politicians from all parties have joined in criticizing US President George W. Bush’s remarks that blamed India for the global food crisis. Although the ruling Congress party has joined the chorus, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has questioned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s silence on Bush’s remarks. The BJP plans to raise the issue in Parliament today.

At a seminar on global economy in Missouri, Bush was quoted by the media as saying: “There are 350 million people in India who are classified as middle class. That’s bigger than America. Their middle class is larger than our entire population. And when you start getting wealth, you start demanding better nutrition and better food, and so demand is high, and that causes the price to go up.”

Follow the link for the complete text. President Bush's statements blaming India for food shortage irk Indians. India is a net exporter of food. Bush may have a less than perfect understanding of cause and effect with regard to the food crisis.

  • I've not found a single crisis that president Bush has had any rational understanding of.

  • i really wish that idiot was out of the white house already anyone with half a brain understands that we as americans habitually and even unconciously use and waste 10 times more food energy ect than any other country in the world and i really would not place much stock in the opinion of a man who denies that global warming is anything more than a theory but most of all if you care a bout the food crisis in india remember what your grandma grandpa and possibly your parents told you 'your not getting up from that table until you finish every last bite dont you know there are starving children in china that would do anything to have what you have?" and "dont take more than you can eat" and "waste not want not" roll your eyes all you want but they where right!

  • the poor guy is just trying to dumb down some advanced supply/demand economics for our benefit, no one cuts him any slack. the real people to blame are the idiots that put him there two times who care more about whether someone talks tough than if he is intelligent and honest. i love tough talk, its very manly.

  • I think bush is planning on retiring to some tropical island and I hope we never have to see him again. I can't wait until the day he leaves office, I am going to throw a party.

  • Maybe if oil wasn't $120 a barrel people could afford to buy some rice.

  • On the one hand Bush wants to spread "the American way of life" all around the globe, and on the other hand he complains when Indians begin eating more than just one frugal meal per day.... go figure.

  • Bush has single handedly brought the u.s. economy to a stand still. No president has ever unraveled the fabric of the u.s as bush has.
Presidents have been Assasinated for far less in the past. Maybe were long over due for one.

And on another note. Bush doesnt care about no one but his retarded oil business. Thats why we are all suffering at the pumps these days. When did going to war for "Freedom" become an arms race to diffuse hussein?? Let me guess since we were already in Afghanistan why not invade iraq on some bogus leads of "Weapons of mass destruction" Im glad this is the last year this retarded prick is in office. Its still going to take a democrat 3-4 years if were lucky to bring/boost the economy up.
