Scott Ritter warns of Bush attack on Iran

Former weapons inspector Ritter: "I think we’ve never been at a greater risk of American military action against Iran. The Bush Administration has made it clear that they seek to resolve the Iranian problem before it leaves office. They have defined the Iranian problem in quite start terms. It’s a nation pursuing an illegal nuclear weapons program. It’s a nation that retains the status, according to the United States, as the largest state-sponsor of terror in the world today. And if you listened to the testimony of General Petraeus and Admiral Crocker, it’s the nation solely responsible for all that ails the United States in Iraq today. President Bush responded to Petraeus and Crocker’s testimony by calling the Iranians criminals, noting that they will be crushed.
A lot of Americans are dismissive of conflict with Iran because they envision it involving hundreds of thousands of American troops occupying this nation that’s over two and a half times the physical land mass of Iraq with a population similarly larger. That’s not what we’re talking about. We’re talking about punitive aerial intervention. And this is something very much on the books."

I can't take anymore war. This will push this country over the edge.
-
Please people step up and help us usher out the warmongers!!!! Obama'08 Let's start the dialogue towards peace.
-
Iran has made it clear that they intend to obtain nuclear weapons. Do you think that Obama or anybody else for that matter will be able to get into office and talk Tehran's nuclear ambitions away? We've seen time and time again what happens when we take a dictator at his word that he is done with whatever his previous drive was. Maybe we'll just give into some of the things he wants. What was that called again, appeasement right? We've seen how that worked in the past. People won't be happy about a war with Iran, but I would suspect that we'll feel a lot worse if a rogue nuclear warhead works its way into our nation or one that we're close to when we could have prevented it.

".....we'll feel a lot worse if a rogue nuclear warhead works its way into our nation ......."
To assume that Iran is the only possible source of a "rogue nuclear weapon' is ludicrous. I nominate Russia as a much more credible potential source. -
I don't think that Iran is the only possible source, but I do consider it to be the most probable source in the international community.
I don't believe Russia is likely to do something like that. Tension isn't going to disappear between the United States and Russia, but it has been very slowly easing. Russia is also more involved in the international community.
Iran has put their nuclear ambitions on top priority regardless with somewhat unclear intentions. They're also getting closed in from the Eastern and Western borders by American influence.-

Do you believe every talking point you hear blind?
Because you just reiterated, without fault, what every damn conservative talkshow host throws out there. Pretty much verbatim. Not tired of those trite and out of context WWII comparisons yet are ya?
Are you _really_ so blind that you can't see that the nuclear threat is bullshit? It is astounding to me how EASY it is to convince Americans these days to engage in conflicts that result in the deaths of hundreds of thousands! Are you kidding me? Perhaps you should THINK about the consequences of war before you say such things so lightly. Enlist yourself even, see how much Republicans "support our troops."
Our INSANE foreign policy encourages nations to build nukes just so that we won't preemptively attack them.
But since you want to live in fear, maybe you should do a little checking up on Pakistan, your pundits don't often cover it. It is the home and the main purveyor of all Islamic fundamentalism. No one is more insane than their populace is. Their government directly funds terrorists (and we DIRECTLY fund them) and they are more than likely housing Osama Bin Laden (with or without their knowledge.) And they HAVE nuclear weapons. And they don't like us, at all. And, they are our ally.
And you're talking about Iran. Give me a fucking break. We have Hillary on the air saying she would NUKE THEM TO SHIT, without the blink of an eye. Guess who is afraid of who? Iran wants to be left alone, their President is a pushover. But then again, if you were informed enough to know that, perhaps you wouldn't need to projectile vomit Republican Propaganda. You would, you know, have your own opinions.
While you're at it, re-research WWII. Your understanding of it shames the amount of literature available. -
BleachedBlind, Iran has never said they wish to pursue nuclear weapons.
See the linked Wikipedia article for more information. -
Of course they haven't said they wish to go after nuclear weapons. Why would they advertise that? yes , they are a threat, you should read the outlandish statements their president has made. So do we believe him when he says he wants to wipe Israel off the map? When he says things like that he doesn't mean it literally right?
Why are so many people so naive to think if we just sit back and mind our own business that we won't be affected? If we do nothing and say nothing about these kind of nations they'll still hate us and want to harm uss -
".....they'll still hate us and want to harm us"
The principle goal of those in power is to remain in power.
While some of these countries have people that appear to be certifiable nut cases in charge, I do not believe they are suicidal or wish to have their countries reduced to sheets of glass.
The US still has the most, biggest and baddest nukes in the world and what we have that others can only wish for is the ability to deliver them anywhere on earth in a matter of minutes.
MAD worked for fifty years and it is still working. -
If it really becomes necessary do attack Iran it should not be unilateral. If we decide to go after them alone we will get our asses kicked by the rest of the world. I'm sure they know it would have more to do with their oil than any nuclear ambitions they have. Listen to Ritter and rein Bush/Cheney in. Their leader is a big mouth lying cowboy, just like ours. They are both nuts and everyone knows it and dismisses what they say. Going to war on what either says is insane.

Shotgun Dicky and his wooden-headed puppet Bush are chomping at the bit to invade Iran in some way. They want to create as much destruction and make as much money for their corporate cronies as they can in their waning months. Maybe Bush will "decide" that he'll be the Littlest Dictator forever by issuing a forever Bush President signing statement that the wimpy Congress would no-doubt back for their Glorious Facist in Chief: BUSH.
If they can't get Bush to do it, McCain is also drooling to do it, on DAY ONE, maybe even at 3 am while America sleeps.-

Cheney isn't suicidal, but he knows his batteries could short out at any time. So, what the heck. Why not attack Iran? Don't microwaves screw up those batteries anymore? I'm not suggesting anyone pop him into an oven, I just wonder.

war is never the answer, it is the problem.
-
Saladin "Bin Ladin", Hillary did not say that she would "NUKE THEM TO SHIT" I think the term was obliterate them, "IF" they attacked Isreal, our only real ally in the area. Sure nukes have the power to "obliterate" people and countries, but I don't think she was talking about the use of nuclear arms. We plenty good at "obliterating" countries without nuclear weapon, lots of huge bombs work just as well.
While I do agree that our foreign is insane at the moment I do not agree that Iran wishes to be left alone. Have you been absent the last few years? who do you think it is we are fighting off in Iraq? Al Queda? maybe some. But mostly its Iran and Iranian intrist in Iraq. They want Iraq to be another Iran.
I think it is you who are blinded by your pre-concieved notions to see what is really going on. Granted none of us have the whole truth, but don't be so drunk on your own ideas that you cannot hear out others. -
Bush isnt gonna attack anyone else, if you think otherwise your retarded. He knows our capabilities are stretched, he may be dumb hes just not that dumb.
-
I am so sick of hearing about what the president of Iran said. The president and parliament of Iran are FIGUREHEADS. The country is a THEOCRACY. It is run by CLERICS.
He can rant and rave all he wants but he does not pull the trigger.-

Time for Pelosi to pull the plug!
IF she does not step up and put a stop to this with immediate impeachment - she's enabling Busheney.
There can only be one wish of Busheney - that is to cause as much turmoil in the US by whatever means possible in the hopes of having an excuse to declare Marshall Law.
Pelosi - would in fact be enabling this.
An outgoing President should never take such serious actions, nor be allowed to do so.
This is only Ripusoffican / neo-con manipulation of United States citizens and others.
Early elections - before they can damage the US any more. Hillbillary step aside and lets have a general election and kick that pile of shift out of office.-

The Persians of Iran have been crying out for years. They are murdered daily for not converting to Islam. Iran was their country, not some Shira law obsessed Ottoman who brutally took it over. Iran and Saudi Arabia governments are going down for Murder of the innocent.

Too much peace not enough war...too much war not enough peace.
There will always be a war somewhere,
And America will always be nosey.
Personally I expected Bush to let loose the armies on Iran sooner.
I remeber when Bush said that if N.Korea wouldnt stop its programs, that there would be another Iraq-like invasion. Then China said, no there wont, because will will not see anything like that again.
But who is there to support Iran right now?
I am there!-

Most people think that if the U.S. or Israel were to bomb Iran's facilities that World War III would be the inevitable result. Truth is...it does not take a nuclear bomb to send the world into utter chaos. All it will take is any bomb, ... ANY ... regardless if it's nuclear or not. One drop of a bomb on Iran will send all economic markets into a nosedive across the globe.

Oh yeah, Diplomatic exchange with terrorist regimes like Iran. Then we could go back to being like the Clinton Administration. Diplomacy is another name for lets give these nut jobs money and food, so we can see peace for a while. Then, Boom!!!!!! They will have just attacked us by training solders and making weapons with U.S. dollars.
I will never see when most liberals will understand that the U.S. is not the "bad guys". I'm just guessing when a loved one has their head detached from their shoulders like so many innocent before them by these terrorists. -
Iran's prez is a goof. I'm sure he goes to sleep in his nazi flag underoos.
Obama wouldn't get anywhere with him because Ahmadinejad's first a puppet and second an idiot. The Iranian people deserve better leadership than the 2nd reich leading the country now.
I don't want war any more either, but the world doesn't need old fashioned Jew hating Iranians with nuclear capability and an angry and oily finger on the button.
Someone will probably call in the airstrikes. I'm sure Omert has something up his sleeve. Let's just hope it isn't what's left of America's economy that he wants to barter for peace.

Putting more troops in more places will NOT help. Imagine if France (just for example purposes) had a thousand troops in the U.S. We would freak out and be wondering what the hell a thousand Frenchmen were doing on our soil. As for Iran having nuclear weapons, i don't think we should harass them for it.
Although they are seen as dangerous and a terrorist country, do you think we [U.S.] are not viewed that way by other countries? Let Iran pursue their programs, they will be used for energy not for terrorist. Stop being fools to corporate media / propaganda.-

After all the fretting and strutting about, I believe that the reason Bush wants to crush Iran is to more easily facilitate the production of the Oil in Iraq...all of the other ranting and raving is just another smoke screen to hide the 'Hidden Agenda'...If BIG OIL had only bought their way into Iraqi Oil we wouldn't be in this jamb in the first place. But, of course, Saddam wouldn't go for it...then the 'yes man' cowboy bully went the way of the Cheney camp and now we, the taxpayers, are footing the bill...where will the money come from to support the bombing of Iran..?
Someone either believes that we have very deep pockets or that they can borrow until we are owned by Japan and China or they could really care less what happens to the American people, because after they are gone away to The New Babylon it won't matter to them anyway...leave the mess for the next administration...Blame it on the Democrats...-

Obama has attended a church for 20 years that is Pro Palestinian. Iran's President openly supports Palestine, and a second Holocaust of Jews . He wants the destruction of Israel and the United States, and has said as soon as he gets a nuke He would use it on both.
Obama wants diplomatic talks with these people? hahah....Please tell me more people see the Obama agenda here. It could not be anymore clear. -
The fmr Prime Minister of Israel was on the Glenn Beck show back in 2006 trying to get the message across about Iran's President.
Obama and his supporters want peace talks with the next Hitler. People like this do not have Peace talks because he is an insane person. -
Whatever happened to 'embrace thine enemy'..? You have to engage a nation in order to convince them of their wrongdoing. You don't just blow them off the map, because sooner or later some country will come along that has a bigger nuke and blow you off the map...
Jodes, are you afraid that Obama might actually be successful at some real foreign policy from this nation for a change..? The bully tactics don't work...sounds like you've been listening to the republican talking points for far too long now...maybe you should get with the program, stop being brainwashed by Rush and Beck and Britt, etc. and instead tune into Nova M or Air America and help Take Back America instead of plunging us further into the Bush Abyss...
This whole scheme of things is a lot more complex than your narrow-minded point of view envisions. Has it occured to you that this administration's hidden agenda isn't something that they want any of us to know about...Iran is key to the Oil production scheme of things...the rest is part of the shadow game... including the disparagement of Barack Obama.
Don't be such a blind consummer. You're smarter than that...-

"You don't just blow them off the map, because sooner or later some country will come along that has a bigger nuke and blow you off the map... "
Problem is Plato, that Iran won't listen to your argument when it comes to Israel. I assume you were speaking to the supporters of Bush, but turn it around and level that argument on our irrational opposition and it doesn't quite make sense.
They are not against a country when they want to destroy Israel. They are after a religion, an ideology, a people, a race, AND in this case, a country.
It's a conundrum, and a terrible one. We are forced to behave similarly to our irrational enemies in preventing a greater, future evil.
It is highly Platonic for you to wish to suffer injustice rather than commit it though and for that I give you your due respect.
Sitting idle as Iran prepares for Israel's destruction is not the good Samaritan thing to do. It's like listening to the cries of a person in trouble and though you have the ability, doing nothing to prevent their death.
I appreciate your suggestions to check out Nova M or Air America. Try chycho. c o m for an alternative view, or truthdig. c o m, truthlovefreedom. o r g, globalpolitician. c o m - there are so many.

Thanks...all good stuff..we all need to continually search and to be more informed...I was just thinking about the Iranian people. I don't believe that the majority follows the crazy guy...They're kinda in the same spot as us...with seemingly, no control over what their fearless leader is doing...their voices aren't being heard either...
