Robert Downey Jr. stars in the new movie, Iron Man, directed by Jon Favreau...two people you wouldn't associate with a Marvel comic book film. Can this duo deliver? Current TV viewers give their review.

It takes a lot for me to get excited about a super hero movie, but I am totally fired up to go see this. Robert Downey Jr. looks awesome. And since Mark was able to believe the story throughout, I am going to check it out.

I have to agree, best movie of the year so far!!
-
I really enjoyed this movie. Thought it dealt well with how RDJ became Ironman.
-
Didn't love it as much as I thought it would but still a good popcorn flick. It should bury Speed Racer next week.
-
Completely agree. RDJ was PERFECT for this role. IronMan is so badass. Everyone, go see it!
-
Not to dump on anyones parade, but this movie was produced in order to promote a strong movement toward transhumanism - the use of technology to expand human capacities. Unfortunately, the people that watch this movie and their offspring will most likely never get access to the "really cool stuff," but perhaps they'll be able to push a broom around Wendys or McDonalds 10-times faster. Is this really where you want technology in society to take us?

Let's not get crazy onepersonsopinion, it's just another adaptation of a comic book that has been around for decades. I love the idea of RDJ playing this character. He is so like-able and not just a brainless action star (Ben Affleck - Dare Devil), and he brings many layers to the film. Personally, I want to see it just because he's in it.
-
I almost saw this movie twice in a row. Who is going back this weekend?

imabettie - you sound like my grandma saying "oh people aren't going to think for themselves anymore with all these computers and internet all over the place!"
-
what? I definitely didn't say that.
-
Xenomode, I think you meant onepresonsopinion, not imabettie.
-
I doubt ''trans-humanism'' had as much to do with this movie being made as cold hard dollar signs.

I had to be talked into going, but I left blown away. Totally a great way to start the summer in terms of movies. Great action flick. Nice acting. Well done. And to the "transhumanism" comment - what the hell are you talking about?
-
Iron Man makes Spiderman look isty bitsy.
It's so cool to be Iron Man right now. Man...-

Tollster - why do you think the comic book was published in the first place?
Xenomode - your grandmother is a very smart person who has seen quite a bit of history. Unfortunately, she is already correct, the public does NOT think for itself anymore. What's even more sad, is that the public doesn't even realize it.
StrangeConversation - All Hollywood movies have at least two requirements: (1) generate profit; (2) permeate a message that supports very specific longterm goals. This movie will handily achieve both of its objectives.-

Can't we just review movies here, and leave the activism, apocolyptic philosophies, and overinflated theories to the rest of the site. It's just a movie that is meant to entertain us. I mean really.
-
Eh- Its a guy in an iron suit that flies around- fun

the hero was great but the villian was a little weak.

I LOVED THE MOVIE AND SO DID MY FOUR KIDS. MY MAN DIDNT REALLY HAVE MUCH OF A RESPONSE TO IT THOUGH. THE ONLY THING THAT I DIDNT LIKE ABOUT THE MOVIE WAS THAT GWENETH DID THE WORST JOB I HAVE EVER SEEN. SHE IS AN AMAZING ACTRESS BUT SHE LACKED TRUE CAPABILLITY IN KNOWING JUST HOW TO PERFORM TO THE BEST OF HER ABBILITIES INT HIS FILM. THAT WAS RATHER DISAPPOINTING TO ME.

Tony Stark is the closest any human being will ever come to being a true super hero.
-
Joe, agree with most of what you are saying- but you left out Batman. He doesn't have powers, he and Tony are pretty similar minus the alcoholism.
-
Yeeeeeahh...but he was trained as a ninja. Iron Man wasn't. In all counts Iron Man's a terrible fighter technically. Tony Stark is also a genius inventor, who worked hard to get where he was through alcoholism, womanizing and a bum heart. Bruce Wayne was born with the silver spoon.
I feel that that's enough to separate Bruce and Tony. Tony seems more real to me. -
i simply love iron man because he was a real hero and not just a made up nothing he had a heart and he went to save so many people and thats what he wanted to continue to do.

Not the biggest action movie fan typically, but RDJ made the film. And let's not forget the director. Every moment of humor and the way they tell the story and portray the character without taking itself so seriously was all due to Favreau...great action film directing. Perfect amount of humor mixed with action mixed with cheesiness. And I personally think Gweneth did a great job. I wouldn't have bought into that role or their relationship if it was anyone with less acting chops. That would have made it cheaper.

how any one can possibley think for one minute that gweneth did a good job has no real vision of what an actress is suppose to do. she is a good actress she just did very poorly in this film. seriously how can you not see this.

It's not a complicated role and I find her likeable. This is the exact kind of role that is typically filled with some cheesy hottie, and I like that she was the antithesis of that (I am glad they didn't give Leslie BIbb that role basically). I didn't say it was Oscar worthy, but I like her.

I love Pepper Potts not only for her name but for who she was in the film...ha. It's just me.
I really like this film and I agree that Dark Knight and Indiana have a lot to live up to to surpass or even hit even with Iron Man.
The after the credit part was just.....nerd awesomeness....yes.it.was! -
Ironman was so much better than Spiderman and all the other superhero movies. RDJ just pulled off the role perfectly. Can't wait until the sequel comes out!
re:onepersonsopinion
"Transhumanism"? There's a "ism" for everything nowadays. I really dont think we will see anything even close to the Iron Man in the coming 10-15 years. The closest we've come is the Sarcos robotic exoskeleton and thats a far cry from the Iron Man suit. -
he built it in a cave using WMD scraps...tight

I'm sure it's a good movie, but DAMN IT!
It's probably funded by the Pentagon. What could be more propagandistic for the military industrial complex?
Groan.
By the way these mechanically-enhanced super-soldiers will be a reality very soon. And I guarantee you they will not be my heroes.-

It's funded by Marvel who created the character for their comic book back in the 60's.
It's fantastic to mention that this is their first movie, Marvel, that they were able to finance. This shows because Iron Man is closer to the comic book than the rest of their character movies.
It just goes to show that those who made the movies previously such as Spider-Man and X-men should have taken more advice from Marvel....they apparently know how to show their characters so that all can enjoy them. -
Military industrial complex + hollywood drama + unthinking public = War is so Amesome!

Not a bad movie, who would have thought that this would be 10X better than Indiana Jones and the Kindom of the Jumped Shark.
