I find this interesting, because PTSD is common in trauma vicitms from accidents, war, marriage, and other unpleasant experiences people go through. Medical use could be around the corner.

I recently read an article in The Scientific American in reference to the possible usage of hallucinogenic drugs as well as ecstasy in the future to help with certain medical problems.
It referred to psilocybin (the main ingredient in magic mushrooms) as a possible treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder.
The article briefly mentioned ecstasy but not in depth and I would definately like to read more into it.-

MDMA has been used for this for a long time. Psychotherapy and the like. It is still used in rare studies around the US. If you read the history on MDMA you will see the majority of scientists wanted to keep it legal in the 1980s but a judge ruled it a scheduled substance, then there was an appeals lawsuit, etc etc. A really interesting story on how basically an anti-drug judge overruled the scientific community.
