I really hope they make the new Prius much more fuel efficient. With the technology available today we should be able to achieve 70 MPG+. Let face it cars in 80's were able to get 40 MPG.

The writer of this article put it best;
"I'm little disappointed in the lack of a plug-in option for this next-gen Prius, as well as Toyota's continuing reliance on nickel batteries. While lithium-ion remain "in their sights, Toyota seems too fat and happy with their current dominance in hybrid technology to really be going after this new technology."
Don't get me wrong, I love the Prius, and I'm looking forward to driving the new and improved version one of these days. But Toyota needs to reaffirm its focus on efficiency with something spectacular before I'll buy into this Prius beef-up."
The bottom line is Toyota is making a ton of $$$ so why should they go crazy spending money to make the Prius get 100 MPG. -
Toyota better watch it, the Germans are getting involved in the MPG race.

SOOOOO bummed they didn't go with a plug-in and lithium ion batteries. I am a three year long Prius owner and now I'm seriously looking at the Smart car.

I have a feeling if Toyota put out a 100mpg car the American public would be too suspicious of it and not buy it. They have to stay within "reasonable" limits to appeal to the average buyer who normally wouldn't be an early adopter but who is forced to try new technology due to rising fuel costs.

i disagree a car that got 100mpg would be embraced acorss the market - people are struggling with rising gas prices and food costs - a lower gas bill would be welcomed - not everyone is so skeptical
