Cyclone death toll to reach 100,000?

The death toll in Myanmar may reach 100,000 according to a U.S. diplomat.

Little aid has reached the area since Cyclone Nargis last weekend killed more than 22,000 people, left 40,000 missing and 1 million homeless -- figures provided by the government.

    It's too bad the media focuses so much on less important matters. Sure, keeping your family in a dungeon is horrible; but were not just talking about one family when it comes to this situation. This is something that is effecting hundreds of thousands of people. This is a look into the future of global warming.

  • It's a shame that the Burmese government weren't quicker to accept international aid at such a tragic time.

    I can't help but wonder that if they accepted aid from the western world that the aftermath could have been less devastating.

  • It's absolutely absurd that government red tape would prevent these people from getting the help they so desperately need. How many lives could have been spared if this wasn't the case?

  • One of my co-workers was close by when this happened. He said that he didn't hear about it till later because of the poor media there. He saw the devastation afterwards and was deeply disturbed by it.

  • many people did not noticed that we need to know the land formation of the area to understand the real situations in rural areas.

    Most of those victims did not even noticed the real dangers that their household are dealing with.

    I hope that Geological strata and structure of the land formations will answer all the question that every nation have in this problem.

  • I remember first launching my internet browser to Yahoo, my default page where a headline read, "About 4,000 dead in Myanmar" I couldn't help but think inaccurate that must have been. Sure enough, the very next day, that number had changed to over 100,000. Indeed the media has a woe some curse of inaccuracy when it comes to foreign affairs. Shouldn't such a technologically advanced country be able to effectively report the news?

  • The sad reality of this situation is that the disgraceful demagouges, in an attempt to pass themselves off as noble leaders, have used the tragedy to propagandize and promote their egoistic policies and personalities...by first writing the names of their generals on the food packages that were accepted from global charities...

    This is one more example of the blatant corruption that pervades and infects the political landscape of global society as a whole...

  • this is just tragic. It is so sad to see this on tv and know there is little to nothing you can do to help. Sure we can make donations but that is nothing compared to saving a life. I pray for these people to recover from this. Its just sad :(
