Protesters angry at the not-guilty verdicts received by police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Sean Bell have blocked streets and bridges throughout New York City. Dozens of demonstrators have been arrested, including the Reverend Al Sharpton, who organized the protest.
"Today we want motorists to think about how three people were shot 50 times by officers," said Rev. Sharpton.

It's an embarrassing shame that narrow-minded people use their view of this protest to a horrible injustice,as a time to take cheapshots at Al Sharpton. This is not about Al Sharpton. How dare you.You care more about trashing Sharpton, than you do about the senseless murder of Sean Bell. You're obviously a closet bigot.Maybe you're not even in the closet. That's probably why you don't show your real face for an icon. That's what the klan does.Hide their faces.Preach hate on your own time L.E.
Sean Bell was murdered on his wedding day by 3 N.Y.P.D. thug cops. They fired 51 bullets at him.One cop had to reload. How many bullets does it take to kill a man ? THIS IS A PROTEST SITE TO HIS MURDER. PREACH HATE ON YOUR OWN TIME.-

It is a little disheartening that white people are constantly being trashed and belittled by minorities. Its easy to trash the cops being evil due to their white skin and Sean Bell being the typical black-man scape goat victim of society, but the real issue is, not enough people know exactly what was going on when the incident occured. The police men, regardless of being "white" may have had strong reason to believe Mr. Bell did have a gun. According to an article in the New York times,
"The officers said they believed the younger Mr. Bell and his friends were going to retrieve a gun and shoot at another group at the club.
When Mr. Bell seemed to try to flee or ram the officers with his car, the police said, the officers opened fire, killing him and wounding the two friends in a barrage of 50 bullets. The officers said they believed they were being fired upon, but no gun was found in the car."
http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/02/26/sean-bells...
Mr. Bell, if these statements are true, should not have been ramming the cops in the first place if he was so innocently killed by the cops. Secondly, maybe Mr. Bell did have intentions of harming the other group in the bar. Maybe Mr. Bell was a real scuz bucket for all we know.
I believe that too many people are reacting to the incident and not really thinking about the incident in a proactive manner. -

Check this out. A black cop killed a latino. Let's hold a riot.
"But a black cop shooting an unarmed black or Latino under highly questionable circumstances is no longer an oddity. In the past two years, black cops have gunned down unarmed blacks in Chicago, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Baltimore, New Orleans, Washington, D.C., Gary, Indiana, Inglewood, California and Los Angeles."
"Many black officers have those same prejudices as whites. They do not live in or grow up in impoverished black (neighborhoods) and see them as hostile and alien places. Many of them are just as jittery as white cops at the prospect of an armed encounter with other blacks." -
If the police really thought Sean was trying to escape...what's wrong with shooting out his tires...in my opinion, these cops are guilty as hell, and they have to live with their own conscience.
Too many cops need to get off of what ever they are jacked up on and remember "to serve and protect"...if they can't discern armed from unarmed they need to get the hell back in training, because shoot first and figure it out later only protects the cop with the gun, no one else.
I am disgusted by the behavior of these cops and the ones in the Philadelphia video as well. If they can't get it together and live by the moral code they swore to when they took this job, then they need to quit and go drive a bus.-

Do not be under the delusion that Mrs. Bush or Mrs. McCain wouldn't prefer to have Al in the sack - and they wouldn't go back .

Sick thinking. a).This is not about one Black man being killed by the cops. b).IF HE WAS GUILTY,WHY 51 SHOTS. One officer, when the shooting stopped, reloaded and emptied his gun again. Obviously, you don't remember Mamadou Dialo( 49 shots). He was going for his wallet and the thug cop said it was a gun, even when the wallet fell and hit the ground,he reloaded and emptied his gun again. This is a pattern of murder that has gone on since Jim Crow.Few Blacks live better, but not much has changed. ( Go and listen to,Bruce Springsteen's ; 49 Shots ),then tell the Boss that, he too is over reacting, or go and listen to Bob Dylan's: Hurricane and tell him the same thing.STOP TRYING TO JUSTIFY CRIME.

I will try to be sensitive in my response, as I know this is a touchy issue. Firstly, I do not intend to propose that people are over reacting, I merely inferred that they are REACTING without THINKING. Secondly, cops are trained to keep firing until they take their potentially harmful target out. Thirdly, maybe they had runflat tires. I'm not trying to justify that its okay for white people to go out and shoot black people, nor am I trying to be blind and say that the history between white cops and black men is scoff free.
I however do not think its fair to glorify a man whom we have little information about. Nor is it fair to make snap judgements about a scene that no one but the cops and the victim was there to see.
I guess the main reason why I'm frustrated is that Al Sharpton in doing his protests is propogating the idea that the cop shot him because he was black. This idea fuels the notion for black people to be leary of white people, which then has the consequence of white people being leary of black people.
In closing, if we are to criticize the cops for what they did, criticize the cops themselves for what they did, and don't project the idea that all white cops are bad. That is simply not fair! -
I do think that justice was not met, but at the same time sharpton has done more to hurt the black community than he has done to help. He truly is part of the reason hatred is still so prevelant in america. Its a shame that we still have to talk about this, but whatever

Dkl165, you should relay that last comment you made to Obama, I think you just nailed a huge part of racism.

What really bothers me about this is that the people arrested will be charged with "disorderly conduct", so long as they were peaceful. Doesn't the first amendment guarantee everyone the right to protest, so long as they are peaceful?
-
I haven't watched the video yet but our whole system is outrageous including our criminal system.
It seems to me that poison is spreading mostly from the top down....same as in the military.
I'll watch it and comment later. Thanks for posting....
Liberal Extinction,,I suggest you sign yourself and your loved ones for the Iraq War and fight that noble cause since you think it is such a good idea..I noticed on other posts. When we are attacked initially I was ready to sign myself up if needed because I was mislead that it would help. Now if my children wanted to sign up for the war it would be over my dead body. This war is really an illegal occupation of a country. If you STILL believe otherwise you are very gullible and are not paying attention. Sorry.

GET PAST THE PHOTO PEOPLE.THIS IS NOT ABOUT AL SHARPTON. THE IS HOW THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA MANIPULATES AND TWISTS THE PERCEPTION OF REALITY. THEY ALWAYS POST A PICTURE OF A NEGATIVE IMAGE OF SOMEONE WHO IS CONTROVERSIAL,ON THE FRONT OF AN SITUATION OF INJUSTICE. THEN, IF YOUR MIND IS DILUTED WITH ANY FORMS OF PREJUDICE(PRE-JUDGEMENTS), YOU NEVER ALLOW YOURSELVES TO GET TO THE HEART OF THE MATTER......COME ON PEOPLE,THINK, BY STARTING TO DEMAND THE BEST FROM OURSELVES FORST. WE ARE BEING FORCED INTO A POLICE STATE. THIS NOT ABOUT AL SHARPTON. IT'S ABOUT RIGHT AND WRONG. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF SEAN BELL WERE YOUR CHILD, BETTER YET, IF YOU WERE ONE OF THOSE COPS,WOULD YOU HAVE EMPTIED YOUR PISTOL, AND THEN RELOADED,TO EMPTY YOUR GUN ONCE AGAIN ON AN ALREADY DEAD BODY ?

Those police officers are duty bound to protect the general public, if Sean Bell was willing to hit a police officer, police cruiser, and anything else around chances are good for him to hit a pedestrian as well. If the man is in a car there are very few places he can be hit and stopped completely. Most police officers carry glocks which are capable of holding 18 rounds. 3 cops, 18 rounds each = 54 rounds. Appears to me there was enough restraint to save at least 3 bullets incase he tried to hurt anyone else. Stop blaming law enforcement for irresponsible, dangerous, & destructive behavior by a possible criminal. Had he simply stopped, talked with the police, and remain compliant long enough for them to determine if he was/ wasn't part of the problem I don't think we'd be having this discussion right now. Every action by the police is examined under a media microscope, what moron would want to bring that kind of scrutiny on himself without there being good reason to use lethal force? Why is it so many people run if they truly are innocent? Once again, human interaction will always lend to mistakes being made from time to time, but if I truly were innocent and the police wanted to discuss a situation with me I'd stay put and make darn sure I showed no sign of aggression towards them, their lives are on the line each and every day. Who is the advocate for all the officers who casually walk up to a car pulled over for a traffic violation with only a flashlight in their hand instead of weapon just to meet the barrel of a criminals hidden hand cannon pointing out the window of a car? Who is willing to be the advocate for a slain officers family b/c he tried to take in a criminal peacefully instead of using force?
As for everyone hammering Sharpton, he's earned it. It's hard out thura fo' a (race) pimp!-

Liberal_Extinction--you hawk your ignorance like a peddler on the street...I only wish people like you could be forced to spend at least one year of their lives in the skin of a black man in an inner city...would be the best education you ever got, and clearly, whatever education you have obtained has been jaded and morose.

Likewise incredulous, I wish you had to spend 1 year as a police officer walking up to a possibly armed felon that has the absolute right to get the armed drop on you b/c of PC police tactics and attempts not to offend a criminal. I wish that you had to walk 1 year in the shoes of a slain police officers family. I wish that you had to suffer at the hands of a criminal who made an officer pay the ultimate sacrifice in his efforts to protect and serve while not offending ANYONE.
