"When your 100mpg (miles per gallon) car is stuck in traffic and a 100mpg airplane whizzes overhead, you're going to be jealous."

This must be the world's smallest, lightest personal helicopter. Eat your heart out, electric plane!

The problem is over crowding in high traffic areas.
It's bad enough when you have too many people trying to use a freeway at the same time. But at least they are all traveling in the same direction and can see where to stop in time since they have no where to move.
It's even worse when you have too many people trying to use the same airspace since they can't all take off or land at the same time from high traffic areas.
But they would have a lot more momentum bult up and many more directions they could approach that air traffic controllers couldn't possibly keep up with so that accidents would rise dramatically or that they would be stacked up so deep around the landing areas that waiting times would be more that the fuel supplies. -
wow i totaly love that slippery slope argon! lol
-
Maybe the point slid off for you too fast to catch then?
That one is not a substitute for the other. Maybe a more of a mixture than has been previously.
Since you'd need cars to take you between landing areas and they can't be located just anywhere like parking lots can.
That might relieve some of the traffic pressure from the ground but it's only going to redistribute it elsewhere. -
lets all hold hands and ride a bike together

Wow the future is here. The Jetsons but a little different. The DUI offenders of the future will be scary!!!
-
the skyways and no-fly zones are gonna be crazy
-
On what fuel do we plan to do or implement this on?
This solves no problems and is not realistic. -
It's an interesting idea...But still, it's not much better than driving. Wouldn't having a personal plane use up just as much...If not more gas? That, and i'm sure it's more expensive than any hybrid car. People should learn to ride their bikes, or even walk as often as they can to get to the places they need to go. We'd help the enviornment, and help solve America's obesiety epidemic.

this may not be practical but its a cool concept, aggressive drivers and drunk drivers will kill people in the air, crashing to the ground killing even more, fantastic

give me an ever-lovin' break....
it's a glider with an electric motor! it needs a runway. it won't take off from your driveway unless your driveway is flat, level and maybe a thousand or two feet long!
and they're not all that speedy, you know? a nice 100mpg gas/electric/plug-in hybrid can seat more than the one or two that a glider can....
and you're going to take that one to the market or to the nearest Lowes or Home Depot to bring a few hundred pounds of lumber or groceries home????
sure, it's a keen idea, but... $100k+ for the base model?! and you're complaining that a fully-loaded Prius gets into the $25-30k range?!
FROTFFLOL! way too funny..
but .... writers gotta write, and inventors gotta get ink... -

We can't drive cars. How in the hell are we expected to pilot aircraft?
-
@mako2424... very good observation! um, and do you think the FAA would let people up in those things without licensing, testing, etc., etc.?
they'll be on sale at Wal-Mart, right next to the Flying Cars from the '50s and car-boats from the '60s.... ah, that's _1950s and 1960s_ , i meant.... :)))...
:)))))))))
