A sculpture of a giant horse standing almost as high as Nelson's Column is among five proposals for a southern version of the Angel of the North. The £2 million piece of public art is intended for a hilltop near to the new Ebbsfleet International Eurostar station in north Kent, and at 50 metres high would be visible from road, rail and air.

  • I have looked at the other proposals and this is by far the best! The others seem to not have any relation to the surrounding area, but this does have some sort of link...

'He said that the horse in Anglo-Saxon mythology was significant. “Horsa, from which the word ‘horse' is derived, was the semi-mythological leader of the Anglo-Saxons who landed on Thanet in the 6th century and so the white horse became the symbol of Kent. They were from Germany and Denmark,” he added, suggesting that his sculpture refered to the topical subject of immigration.'

I think that clearly warrants putting up a rather pointless sculpture for 2 million squid, don't you?!

Although I have to admit I am rather biased, I am clearly obsessed with horses and at least it is a lot more picturesque than a bunch of cubes stacked up with a big laser through it - whatever floats your boat I guess!
