Lomography is a style of photography centered around cameras made by Lomo Optics, in Russia. Lomography started in the Soviet Union as a way for communist to document their lives. After the Soviet idea of Lomography died, the International Lomographic Society brough t it back as a way to paint a picture of the planet.

I've aways thought the best photography is the kind essentially following the lomo rules. Capturing moments in time. I think its great as is...but what do I know. Great piece.

The website's "About" section is a great resource if you're interested in Lomography!

interesting stuff. Ive never heard about this style before. I like the idea capturing real life as it happens vs. setting up the shot. Cool stuff.
-
Really nice. Some of your transitions (esp into titles) could be faster, even though it's really cool to watch the fades. Good work on those.

super interesting pod-- not wild about the music in the beginning.
-
very cool. i like the music and the story. i like random photography with weird/cool composition...but at times i like to compose everything so it's perfect. as far as editing, seems like it could move along a little faster ..or be shorter. cool nonetheless, as always!

I've been thinking about this pod... which is a good sign. What I've been thinking is that my favorite feature is the exclusion of a corporate spokesperson. It's so cool to learn about lomography in a comprehensive way from a knowledgeable practitioner who isn't in bed with the company.

I've been wanting a lomo for a long time! This pod has me super motivated to finally buy one and join the club!
-
Kudos on the piece! I've been thinking about getting into lomography for nearly two months now and this pod did an excellent job of really explaining the history and aesthetics of the style. I just might go ahead and buy my camera this weekend :)

i thought this was beautiful - well shot, cool editing and music - really interesting topic - makes me want to leave the digital world behind and give lomo a try
-
I really liked the story because I didn't know anything about lomography. I am 44 years old and for me it is funny to see that the younger generation of digital photography is going back to photography with a film roll and all its little mistakes. Is that a little retro effect here too. Anyway this little report had structure as well as content. I really liked it.
-
liked the music, is that mazzy star? if so how did you get rights to use it?? great job.
-
I am not sure exactly who the music is, but it all came from the music libraries Current has the rights to under producer resources. There's some great stuff in there. Glad you liked it :-) I was really happy with how it turned out when I was done editing.

Fantastic pod! Great characters and a really interesting subject. I love all the interspersed snapshots--it's really hard to take a bad picture with a Lomo camera. The production quality was immaculate, as well. The ending was very funny; "No film!" I liked all of the characters' stories about past experiences with Lomos. I would've liked to see more on the Lomography Society, I don't think they mentioned it once! I loved all the talk about the philosophy, but there should be something on how to get involved in the Society. Overall, fantastic pod--one of the best I've seen! Put it on TV now!

Big fan of lomo so I'm glad to see a well-produced pod on the subject. Definitely gave some good background info, and I think it's great that you followed multiple photographers around as they went out to shoot. I absolutely loved the stills you included -- a great way to show the power of lomo cameras. Good work all the way around.

Fascinating pod. I am not clear though, would it still be lomography if I use my phone camera? or does it have to be a Lomo camera? Is this a retro thing?

Really enjoyed this.
I am an owner of the Holga camera and I have to agree it's about capturing the moment. It's not fancy or overly technical, it's about getting out there and making some memories. I'm the owner of a digital camera as well but it's always fun to reach for the plastic toy camera and get a far from perfect yet interesting photo. I think it helps anyone start a passion for photography. Again, thanks for the really enjoyable pod! -
Hey Ana,
Lomography is using a lomographic camera, which includes cameras like the Fisheye, Holga, LC-A, supersampler, Diana, etc.
It's more of a lifestyle than it is a retro thing...it's more about capturing a moment a pinpoint of the world rather than snapping a digital photo.
Cheers and Lomo on!!-

I remember the first time I was introduced to wide lens(fish eye lens)/lomography was back in my freshman year in high school. I was so entranced by my friends work and how her pictures came out that I wanted something like that attachment for my camera but I didn't have the money to save at the time so what I used was a slurpee cup lid and made it so it worked almost like a wide lens but years down the line I have a wide lens(fish eye) now. It's some much fun to work with. Great pod, seriously dudes.
