Its hitting the internet now and tv that there is some sever rockets and gun fire in Lebanon... in fact, the reporter just reporting on my tv suddenly got cut off.
Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah warned on Thursday that a Lebanese government crackdown on his group was tantamount to a "declaration of war" as clashes escalated between supporters of rival political factions in the deeply divided country. Nasrallah issued his ominous statement on the second day of anti-government protests, with gunfights in several parts of the country.
Now what?

this is just being covered by CNN (USA) on TV. Cool how quickly we can get news over the web these days.

Sh*t.
Definitely not what Lebanon needs in the slightest.
If Hezbollah is all about the people, as they claim, why are they jumping into another war...?
According to my limited knowledge:
They are a very unstable element, they don't seem to be acting with the government so much as against it, and they are 50% responsible for Lebanon's recent war with Israel - it seems as if the Lebanese government is in the right by cracking down on them. -
I'm with you....now what?

they cant survive under a pro us government israel just invaded the country, theres a declaration of war because they know its coming. pick your war, under handed or in the open.
-
This is one of those instances where it was obvious that this sort of thing was going to happen... It took people long enough to finally declare and establish the fact that yes, indeed...There is a war going on there.

It's just sad because Lebanon has such determination to become a strong democracy.
And because of that absurd, unjustified attack on them from Israel they feel compelled to put down Hezbollah. Something I don't think Lebanon has the strength to do. -
Saladin, you're grossly misinformed. How did I know this was going to end up with someone blaming Israel? This conflict is Sunni Vs. Shiite, and Lebanon also has a history of Christian Vs. Islam violence. Support for Hezbollah? Are you serious?
-
well strictly speaking we need to accept that some people believe israel is wrong, and some people just are wrong. theres no point in arguing on some of the things on this subject becuase we'll get no where. but i do think israel had a hand in a pro yank government popping up there, it would be very odd if that happened without israels help
-
I'm sorry I'm blaming Israel for conducting an unnecessary and immoral war against the people of Lebanon? Maybe if they didn't engage in such actions they wouldn't be so easy to blame.
And where did I EVER say support for Hezbollah? I'm supporting the government of Lebanon. Certainly part of the sentiment that makes the two groups not like each other is religious difference, but both sides make it abundantly clear in the article why they're fighting.
I fail to see why a country that hasn't been in civil war for religious reasons would just arbitrarily decide to do so now. It doesn't make sense, especially when the cause of the upset has nothing to do with religion at all.
Perhaps you're just too blinded by your bias to see that, which would explain you twisting my post into something it wasn't. -
mate, the reason there is a blame israel band wagon is because israel is to blame for alot of stuff, i mean they felt the need to kill a cheif iraqi minister sorting out peice in iraq in the 30s because they wanted high profile terror targets to make everyone notice their 5% extremist zionist minority peice of cr*p that has no right to become a country ! they are curs (look up the meaning its good) and all of our western goverments allow us to think growing up the situation in canaan is complicated ? its not complicated for gods sake. its just bloody messy. its obvious thats what it is.
-
Not really. I'd say sectarian violence is a lot more to blame than Israel. And yes, it is a lot more complicated. Those who think it's not don't know enough.
-
are you aware of how much sectarian violence the israelis glorify in lebanon ? a man that later became an extremely high ranking military man, cant remember rank or name, but hes an israeli war hero, a commando, he dressed as a muslim woman and assassinated a muslim leader i think in the 60s or 70s during one of the many hightening potentialy violent periods in lebanon. violence followed and he escaped as a hero to israel.
now who do you think these militants are gona attack, the government. they dont care about any party dgold -
Um, there were three decades of civil war in Lebanon because of sectarian violence. I don't doubt that Israel has occasionally played one side off the other, but you're once again blaming them for something they didn't initiate. I doubt anyone needs to exaggerate or glorify it. And I assure you, at this moment, the last thing Israel wants is an unstable Northern border. Do you see how this argument is proceeding? I'm bringing up facts, historical evidence, and logic, and you attack with heresy and the usual fetid "Israel is to blame" blindness. READ. Please, spare me the redundancy of having the same argument over and over. Look into the conflict between Syria and Lebanon, read up on Lebanese history, read up on the current situation. Use google and wikipedia, the expanse of information at your fingertips makes your uninformed statements all the more. I'll save you a little bit of time:
"In public statements and demonstrations in recent years, the Shiite militant group backed by Iran and Syria threatened to use its power and popularity to oust the Sunni-led government, triggering fears of a new civil war that could further destabilize the volatile region." - The source is CNN -
dgold, i was simply saying the evidence is stacked against israel, sitting here on a forum none of us know for sure as i thought we established. you obviously think israel has a right to exist, i haven't tried to directly attack that. i think the middle east should be made up of majoratively muslim governments, stasticaly and by common sense. israel is wrong, not just politicaly, religiously to according to judaism. i agree with rabbi weiss and orthodox jews that israel should not exist. therefore in my oppinion all influences and actions they have, which is usualy negative, like owning the vast majority of egyptian tourism, and i may not be able to pull up a list of historical facts right this minute. but lets be honest, we both know what israel the US and a few main european countries have done in the middle east over the past 50 years. that said, we will not agree on this.
