The Olympic torch reached the summit of Everest after several days of weather related delays.
The ascent and broadcast of the torches at 29,035 feet was a success in terms of safety and technological coordination, however political concerns over China's rule over Tibet still cloud the Games.

I think the issues between China and Tibet will always be on people's mind as we approach the games. They might try to avoid conflict and make it seem pretty and happy, but the country has a bad human rights' track. Are any countries protesting? Didn't they not let South African compete in games at one point because of apartheid?

I would love to see a free or autonomous Tibet, but I actually think we can help Tibet more by not boycotting the Olympics.
In Chinese culture, the sense of honor and of saving face are very important. An intentional insult would close down lines of communication, whereas giving respect where it is due (and there are many things about China to respect) would allow us more opportunities to affect the areas of their behavior that we would like to change.
Also, it is very hard at this time to make moral points about other countries' behavior when in many respects our own nation's moral position leaves so much to be desired. Hypocrisy does not make for good diplomacy.
Peace,
