Clinton, Obama hesitate to build "Dream Ticket"

There's only one problem with the idea of a Hillary Clinton-Barack Obama "Dream Team" ticket - neither member of the team is ready to buy the dream.

With Clinton's White House hopes on the wane, chatter of a joint ticket with Obama on the top was making the rounds of Democratic power circles, the media and in the two campaigns themselves.

Clinton, Obama hesitate to build "Dream Ticket"

  • I'd like to see Obama choose Edwards or Webb for a VP. He could use Webb's military experience in the ticket to squash McCain's. I'd love to see Edwards on the ticket too. Either one would be an asset. Maybe Edwards for Attorney General, so we can clean things up.

  • With Clinton as VP, Obama will need a food taster.

  • To those of us who do not wish for a Clinton dynasty any more than we have enjoyed the Bush dynasty, that would be a nightmare not a dream.

  • He doesn't need her on the ticket, she needs to go away now.

  • There's no way Obama will choose Hillary...Lol.

    I say Obama/Gore for 2008 :D

  • HappyYoga nailed it. I do not want a Clinton dynasty, we're just about to exit a Bush dynasty. Hillary on the ticket would be a nightmare. Thankfully, I don't think it's likely to happen.

  • could this be ze final countdown?

  • I have been pushing for this ticket for a long time but I am starting to see that Hillary probably isn't the person that I want to be next in line for the Presidency. Look at the lows she is stooping to as the primary season is drawing to an end and she kicks and scratches to cheat her way into the Presidential race. Hell, she's even started pandering to voters a la John McCain with the gas tax situation.

I believe there's a lot to be said for gracefully bowing out and would garner much respect on her behalf since it's for the good of the party. However, even if that were to happen today, I don't know if having her on the ticket in November helps us as much as it hurts. She may be too polarizing a figure.

Hillary. Al Gore. Michael Scott. Whomever. At this point, I'm for whoever will help get us the White House.

    Obama/????? 2008

  • Magic, Bird and Jordan was a Dream Team. When Randy Savage joined forces with Hulk Hogan to form the Megapowers, that was a Dream Team.

Obama/Clinton is not a Dream Team.

  • indeed, Mr_Costello, this could in fact be the Final Countdown, as this musical representation of the state of Hillary's campaign vividly illustrates...

  • I can't think of a WORSE VP candidate than Clinton. Her mean-spirited, win-at-all-costs dirty politics during this primary season has already split the Party in two...certainly not a unifying force, which is what we need. There are far better candidates for VP...like Richardson, Edwards, Gore would be great but he won't accept. I can think of many more choices than her that would bring this election home for Democrats.
The Clintons have done enough damage already....they need to retire somewhere with their $109-million (oops minus the $11 million she already loaned herself) to one of their palatial mansions....which you won't find anywhere in blue-collar, white, working class neighborhoods, that's for sure! They just pander to those folks for votes, and sadly, they are buying it.

  • A. Obama would never take her on as a VP
    B. Edwards is the logical choice as he would capture the middle class and blue collar white vote that polls say Obama is missing...

Personally, I would much rather see Joe Biden or even Bill Richardson as a VP, but even though Edwards is an uncharasmatic, (if anyone did not watch the 30 dem. debates, this guy blinks about 45 times per min., looked nervous, and underinformed) not particuarly useful VP he somehow remains more popular than other options and would prevent McCain from further destroying this country.

Barack and Edwards in '08, bet the house on it.

  • I think someone like Webb or Wes Clark would be a more effective counter to McCain's foreign-affairs/military experience advantage (which in a sane world would be a liability - Bomb Bomb Iran, 100 years in Iraq, etc.)

Edwards was supposed to be the guy would would make the "intellectual, elitist" Kerry more palatable to the masses in 2004 and we all saw how that worked out. He makes a great stump speech, but I remember cringing as Cheney absolutely eviscerated him in their debate...

  • korourke, I certainly hope so, all it would cost him is a pair of jet skis and it would be a landslide. Edwards is far from uncharasmatic.

  • Obama/Richardson 2008... or Obama/Paul??
    smallwood
  • I would definitely like to see him choose edwards for vp as well. Right now Obamas got the intellectuals and the upper class vote...and i think edwards is just what he needs to get the working class voters on his side.

  • Wow my first comment here. :)
I think Barack Obama / Ron Paul 2008 would be the ideal dream team. A democrat and a republican who would unite the country and finally bring peace to our little planet. Me as European, i'm wondering why no one else had this idea...

  • Obama/paul would be awesome but they disagree on about everything except for privacy rights and the war.
    RonenA
  • Well, they don't have to agree on anything. Sometimes differences could be positive... :)
    Ionstorm2040
  • I'm guessing that Obama has already ordered the jet skis for Edwards

  • I Hope so wouldn't that be funny. I would work my heart out for that ticket. Think of what they together can achieve for us. I'm so tired of our bus being in the ditch and things falling apart all around us.
  • Anyone else considering that Hillary might put a hit out on the barackster in the first year?

  • I don't think Obama/Clinton is a dream ticket at all. Obama will need to choose someone based on HIS needs in a presidential partner, not someone who happens to be standing there.

He needs to balance his strengths/weaknesses/traits. He needs a white male (sorry, but let's face it!), he needs someone NOT also in the Senate, he needs someone with real foreign policy experience, he needs someone older (sorry, but let's face it), he needs someone well-known and well-respected. Not Hillary, by any stretch. I see maybe Wes Clark?

I'd like to see Hillary as Senate Majority Leader. Get Harry Reid out of there, and let's make things HAPPEN!!!!!!
    shelchak
  • "I'd like to see Hillary as Senate Majority Leader. "

I agree. it suits her strengths and it is a position that has the potential to let her build a powerful legacy.

It would be a mistake for the democrats to pick any sitting senator as VP. They have a razor thin 1 vote majority in the senate and one of those votes is Lieberman who is actively campaigning for McCain!

They will likely pick up a few votes in november but they will need a fillibuster-proof majority if they are to govern effectively and be the change agent people say they want!
