I think writing a children's book about marijuana is great! If you think about it, there is so much stigma attached to marijuana it's what motivates a lot of people to try it in the first place. If they're going to do it anyways it's better to be educated; I wish I had been educated. *sad face

  • I never understood why children are bombarded with a society that wraps heroin, crack and marijuana in to one neat little package. Children need to know the differences in order to understand the facts and effects of very varied substances. By lumping all substances into one group, children are confused and can feel lied to. This children's book certainly looks like a nice step in the right direction.

  • There isn't any confusion about drug use
I was in High School and College in the '70's and I
knew not to do any of it.
  • oh there's definitely some confusion about drug classification.

it takes a responsible individual with sound judgement to be able to experiment with mind altering substances without letting them take control.

certainly, if you feel you are not equipped to approach drug use with a level head, then by all means, dont.

my sister is 5 and has trouble understanding the difference between vodka and cigarettes. she knows that they are both bad for you, (as society says) but i think it is important for children to know the hard facts about drugs while they are young instead of being extra prone to trying it in the future.
  • ok why are there so many books papers adds and such about alcohol and its effects , yet pot gets the bad rap, also alcohol is devestating to americas resources, only the war on pot not the consumption of it requires much resources

  • Kudos happyYoga, the effects marijuana has on the body is way less detrimental than alcohol, let alone the narcotics it is often associated with.

Marijuana could do this country good in so many ways. We could use hemp bags instead of plastic or paper at our shopping centers, and if it were sold in stores the government could tax it and use the money for something good like funding school programs, maintaining infrastructure, or transitioning from fossil fuels to something less detrimental to the environment!!!

    *Would save trees.
    *Would save plastic.
*Would ease pain of persons suffering from fatal illnesses.

In a perfect world, it would do a lot of good.
Chances are it would be loaded with more nicotine and hazardous chemicals then cigarettes once in the hands of some money grubbing corporation.

The fundings from the tax probably would go to support the war in Iraq and/or the inevitable one to happen in Iran.

but how happy would everybody be if we all toked up every once in a while???????

  • Children should not be spun with distorted facts, it will make them dizzy. An egg in a frying pan, is not really their brain on drugs. It's a commercial! Facts about marijuana have nothing to do with eggs.

Children should be able to trust their parents to learn facts. Parents should not spin (distorted facts) to their children. In the long run they may not trust the truth when they realize they have been misled with spin.

  • a copy for every primary school child please, oh, and a knock on the head of those who try to curb the truth, big up the weed!
    BiancaBRose
  • BiancaBRose, I'm for educating parents. I don't think primary schools should make a decision to teach children about 'a plant' that is against the law. We need to work to change the law.

If we educate the parents and society in general, maybe we can change the laws. But today, cannabis/hemp, the plant is illegal.

  • I think this is terrible kids now are growing up WAY to fast ive heard storys of kids doing drugs at the age of 7!

the last thing they want is more propaganda telling them that the drug is just a leaf!!!! or a natural tree!

kids should be told how its so bad for you you can die from it.

if i had a child an a teacher said they are telling students about drugs id go potty!

  • Great idea. If I had a kid, i'd totally teach the world of pot by buying this book.
    sarahjesse
  • forshow21, I totally respect your opinion and I mean you no disrespect, but there are many opinions and opinions should be based on facts. Not chosen facts, but all the facts.

You are correct it is terrible kid’s are growing up WAY to fast and I’m sure you have heard stories of kids doing drugs at the age of 7. I hear those same stories. We differ on the reason for such sadness. Any time as young as 7 is using drugs, there is a far deeper problem than the drug. Where did they get the drug? What other drugs is that person going to give them? Would they be raiding the medicine cabinet for a better drug? A child choosing a drug at the age of 7 need guidance.

The last thing children need is more propaganda telling them they will die! What kind of guidance is that? It’s an out and out lie! You may think lying will keep them from drugs? When you lie to them and they find out facts that prove you lied, give’s them reason not to trust you. You will say anything! That’s sad!

I do agree you should have say as to what your children are taught. But you don’t realize how important cannabis/hemp has been in American history. You were denied facts, just as I was when I went to school. Did you know that during war time, farmers who grew hemp did not have to send their sons to war. Hemp was an important crop. Google ‘Hemp for Victory’, it’s a real government movie. It’s not ‘Reefer Madness’, a joke!

Did you know cannabis can be use for glaucoma, asthma, multiple sclerosis. I only stopped listing due to lack of time. I’m taking care of my mother who is dying from a weakened heart and various other heart problems. They turned off her defibrillator last weekend and sent her home with hospice. My time is limited. If my spelling is incorrect, or my grammar imperfect, please excuse me. I’m pressed for time.

  • This is a good start. Now, how about a couple of sequels dealing with the potential horrific effects of legal substances like alcohol & tobacco that are heavily advertised, but of course never to children-it's against the law-unless they watch sporting events, and our government's heavy dependence on these taxes.

  • To some...It is more than just a plant, it's an lifestyle. o_o
    MissJonaLyn
  • Conniepae I take it smoking the cannabis isn't what helps the asthma?
    fauxsherrrr
  • Now this is scarier to show kids, it even scares me! I started smoking pot when I was 12, in the 70's, it was everywhere. Everyone did it! Pot is harmless, as long as you aren't stupid in the first place, don't drive though, & stock up on ice cream & pizza ; )
    HeadNtheClouds
  • this book is actually brilliant. It's very educational - talking about how and where marijuana comes from and the consequences may/may not come with it.
    designisfine
  • Damn, this author is cool. I wish there were more teachers like him. Sure would be a lot more rational minds out there
    sonicbrainwave
  • fauxsherrrr, yes the THC in cannabis opens the blood vessels and can stop an asthma attack. Cannabis opens blood vessels, which is one reason when someone smoke it, their eyes get red, it opens the blood vessels and can relieve glaucoma.
    Conniepae
  • I'd buy it!
    iknew
  • I think this is good. America needs to loosen up its drug policy and people need to be educated in a non bias way. Marijuana is not a bad drug but the people who get hurt in any situation involving drugs are the people who are uneducated.
