Former Democratic US presidential hopeful John Edwards has said that Senator Barack Obama is now his party's "likely presidential nominee".
But he has stopped short of endorsing Mr Obama, saying that the value of endorsements is "greatly inflated".
After Mr Obama's victory in this week's North Carolina primary and narrow loss in Indiana, observers say he is poised to win the nomination.
But his rival Hillary Clinton has vowed to go on "until a nominee is chosen".
Switching sides
Mr Edwards refused to reveal which candidate he voted for in Tuesday's Democratic Party selection contest in North Carolina, his home state.
But, speaking on US television, he said Mr Obama has "the capacity... to unite the Democratic Party [and] to bring in new voters, to bring in people who haven't been involved in the process over a long time and to get people excited about this change".

If you read this, Mr. Edwards:
'Likely' perhaps but not the best. That was you, Mr. Edwards. I wish you had stayed in it to the convention. It was very strange how you stated one day you were in it to the end and then the next you abruptly withdrew. Very strange.
However, since you already ruled out being a VP candidate (which I totally understand) I hope you continue to be a voice out here standing up for those in America who are forgotten and continue working to end poverty in America. Some of the greatest work for this country has been done from the grassroots instead of the status quo and as you know, it takes more than a president to make this country work.
As much as I am critical, disillusioned, and distrustful of this political system and process, I still had hope this time and only participated in the dialogue again because of you. Thanks for that. Love to you and your wonderful wife.-

We are with you on that Marilynn and another ticket that sounds good to us is Obama/Webbrecommended by Chique
-
Obama Clinton is the obvious duo to not alienate any clinton supporters but I'd like an Obama Kucinich ticket.
-
twodee, That would work for me too. Edwards is just a little more to my liking.

Has anyone heard why Edwards has been holding out? Is he angling for Attorney General? Some other cabinet position?
-
Holding out what? He stated above that endorsements are "greatly inflated" and he's correct. Why people place so much credence in the hype of the election process is exactly why they never change. I'm glad he didn't endorse anyone. It shows he doesn't need to make excuses to put himself in the spotlight and respects people who can think for themselves without needing a "name" to tell them who to vote for.

Edwards and his wife has differences on whom they would support. Since his state have not been voted yet, he can still remain silent. He might be silent for even longer til there is a nominate e.
-
I have a real difficulty believing this.
Were is the News Article that this came from Date Time were did you see it. Were is it available.
Because His wife already made the statement and I'm searching to locate it.
That she liked Hillary's Health Care plan because it did not leave anyone out unlike Obama's which left Thousands of people with out Health Care.
So I have a really big problem believing that John Edwards a man that knows better about business and understands this as his wife does would go against his wifes opinion as to what is better for American.
BIG PROBLEM.-

obama needs a moderate or conservative democratic vp to run with because when you put 2 extreme liberals or extreme conservatives on the same ticket its going to alienate the moderate independants and obama needs those votes if hes going to win
-
I think this implies based on the votes and delegates that he stated it appears "likely", not that it will be or that he endorses it. But yes, I agree a link would be nice.

Edwards totaaly loves Obama, in other interviews today he hinted at it like crazy.
I have inside information as well. He is waiting and not endorsing strictly to be cordial. No one wants the Clintons to feel like they were forced out.
Obama is going to win fair and square.-

I like that Edwards has not endorsed anyone yet. I think he favors Obama, but who can say except him. Looks like he is having a pretty good time not endorsing anyone. I have a bit of hope that Obama will chose him for VP and that he will accept. There are changes to be made and I'd like to see Edwards have a hand in that.
