Greed drives the owners of Puppy Mills who breed popular and rare breeds of dogs for profit. Some puppies are smothered when their siblings climb on top of them to escape the sharp wire of their cage and many others freeze to death in unheated garages, barns and outbuildings. Some crates of Moms and pups are stacked five high so the urine and feces rains down on the lower cages. Some breeds of puppies sell for up to $2000 or more in "Pet Stores", so the breeders don't are if some of the pups and moms die in the process. After a female is too old, sick or weak to breed she is dumpped or killed as she will no longer bring a profit. Due to over-breeding, puppies are often deformed or have hidden genetic problems that don't show up for several years.
Please DO NOT ever buy a 'pure breed' puppy from a Pet Store, find a reputable breeder and insist on seeing their facility before paying. Fake papers are easy to make, so don't be fooled. Better yet, find a rescue site for the breed of dog you are interested in, and save another dog from a horrible fate.

Let's go get a puppy for the kids, then when it gets too big, leave it in the woods! We are all such morons. People don't consider everything when making big decisions.
Go to a local animal shelter, and get the "ugliest" animal you can find, because everyone else skips them, and they will be put down. "Ugly" or "Cute" animals, feels the same pain, have the same feelings, and have the same potential.-

It is hard to understand how people can do this. It is clear that the mill owners value making money over all else. Do you think they tell their children that making money is the most important thing in the world and it is ok to be cruel to animals as long as it is profitable?

I think Puppy Mills should be outlawed! Or governed better by state officials, it seems to be the problem because we dont have enough regulations on these ppl!
I never nor would purchase a puppy from a puppy mill or even pet shops (granted some are reputable) it just keeps these mills operating. With so many SPCA's and adoption center ppl need to focus on saving them rather than breeding for profits. I personally own a male & female golden retrevers both regristered. Now i intend to breed only once and only if i have a minimum of 6 family members and/or very close friends who actually are looking to own for a lifetime these animals. I myself want to keep 2 then offer others to the aforementioned, because my male's a fourth generation, and his grandfather was a west meister champion, he is one of the most gentle and smartest dog anyone has come across they say and i hate to stop his line, but he is also 11 yrs old and time is a factor.
Does this make me a hypocrit against those who intentional breed tho?-

Many puppy mills are run by religious groups, similar to the Amish (not the Amish) that are sort of off the radar and get away with it because they don't believe in using electricity, etc. and therefore don't have to explain why they have not heat or AC for the puppy 'sheds' which are often windowless storage sheds or barns. It really is horrible what they do to the animals all to make a buck.
