Mirwais Jawid is a 26-year-old Afghani who's never known peace. And after five years serving as a translator for the U.S. military, which continues to battle the Taliban throughout major regions of Afghanistan, Mirwais is reminded of an old Afghan proverb: "It is very difficult to hold two watermelons in one hand," says Mirwais. "Like America ...[with] Iraq and Afghanistan. And they say America will drop one of them."
This revealing interview, conducted by Homeland Security Television's Dan Verton, highlights the failure of the Bush administration's strategy in the War on Terror. More than 6 years after the U.S. military was sent to Afghanistan to oust the Taliban and destroy al-Qaeda, the Taliban is getting stronger and still controls major regions of the country. And Mirwais Jawid witnessed the failure first-hand.
