YouTube is the most successful video hosting site in the cyber world today. It is a phenomenon in its own rights. At this time of writing YouTube is hosting a more or less 6.1 million videos requiring about 45 terabytes of storage space....

I could so use this!
But you could always type in "YouTube Downloader" in Google and open up one of the websites then just copy and paste the videos' URL. Then download it.
And also download a converter. -

anyone know a good .avi to mp4 converter?

The simplest way is just go to Vixy.net and paste the link from the video on YouTube.
It will download and covert it automatically,into several different formats like .avi and .mov
You don't need to install any extra software with that method -
Argon18, Vixy.net is good, but I like zamzar better. Because you can make the videos into just about any media type of file! :)
No need to do anything downloading. All you need is an e-mail address and the video URL :)
There is a lot of pop-ups though, lol-

YouTubeRobot.com today announces YouTube Robot 2.0, a tool that enables you to download video from YouTube.com onto your PC, convert it to various formats to watch it when you are on the road on mobile devices like mobile phone, iPod, iPhone, Pocket PC, PSP, or Zune.
YouTube Robot allows you to search for videos using keywords or browse video by category, author, channel, language, tags, etc. When you find something noteworthy, you can preview the video right in YouTube Robot and then download it onto the hard disk drive. The speed, at which you will be downloading, is very high: up to 5 times faster than other software when you download a single file and up to 4 times faster when you download multiple files at a time.
Manual download is not the only option with YouTube Robot. You may as well schedule the download and conversion tasks to be executed automatically, even when you are not around. Downloading is followed by conversion to the format of your choice and uploading videos to a mobile device (if needed). For example, you can plug in iPod, select the video, go to bed, and when you wake up next morning, your iPod will be ready to play new YouTube videos.

Midnight_DevilX, the problem with zamzar is that they send you the video via email, and most email browsers and services will not support a total size (email plus attachment) over 20 megs - .avi files are uncompressed (unless they are in DivX format), so you won't be able to receive most of the videos you might wish to have.
There are several ways of downloading YouTube videos, http://keepvid.com being one of them. Also, if you have Firefox, there is an add-on that allows you to download videos in flv format. Another way to download videos is Real Player.
