Report pushes passage of thought crimes bill - There's a war on for your mind!

I am afraid this bill is going to limit conversation. Will we be afraid to speak when things happen that we feel are against our freedom? Will we still be able to utilize our Constitution to speak up against people who do not agree with certain portions of the Constitution? Will we be able to express our concerns, or will they silence our voices with bills enacted to instill fear? I fear many will be afraid to speak up, or support others who do. No one wants to be found guilty and declared a 'Homegrown Terrorist'.

by: Lee Rogers
The Internet is now becoming a new front in the phony terror war. Legislation like the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 that is in the forms of HR 1955 and S 1959 which seek to give the government powers to define thoughts and belief systems as homegrown terrorism, is on the brink of being pushed down our throats. HR 1955 was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 404-6 and now it appears as if the U.S. Senate is attempting to justify its future passage. The U.S. Senate homeland security committee lead by war mongering fascist Joesph Lieberman, investigated the so called growing threat of terrorists using the Internet for recruiting and training purposes. In their report, they paint the Internet as a dangerous tool for terrorists and conclude that new laws need to be passed “to prevent the spread of the ideology.” It is incredibly convenient that S 1959 provides the legislation that is called for in their report. The true purpose of this report is to push for the passage of S 1959 which will give the government powers similar to what the government of Oceania used in George Orwell’s book 1984.

The Hartford Courant ran an article on this Senate homeland security committee report. According to their article, the report hypes the threat of homegrown terrorism and how the Internet is playing a key role in spreading the message of so called terrorists. Below is a blurb taken from the article.

A Senate homeland security committee report set for release Thursday details a growing threat from terrorists’ use of the Internet as a recruiting and training tool. The report concludes that the U.S. government should consider its own outreach program as a counter to the Web strategies of groups such as al-Qaida.

This report paints Internet use by terrorists as having an unlimited reach, including into English-speaking communities in the United States. Al-Qaida, it says, runs a “a multi-tiered online media operation in which a number of production units associated with [al-Qaida] or allied violent Islamist organizations produce content consistent with the core terrorist enlistment message.”

The “thousands” of terrorist-operated websites have become “an effective distribution system for the core enlistment message and other content,” the report contends. There is no longer as much of a need, it suggests, for physical training camps.

Yes, Argon 18, and Cowardice is Bravery.

GWB said he was a 'uniter,' and he did a fabulous job of 'uniting' the US under the banner of Fear. And, like sheep and Jar-Jar Binks, we rushed headlong into the slippery slope of the 'Patriot Act' and the 'War on Terror.'

All this aggression on our part has ignited our enemies into using very creative guerrilla tactics based on the internet's ability to organize and disseminate information. They will always find those guerrilla tactics: loopholes in our communication infrastructure. It will be a never ending battle as long as we think like sheep.

GWB says that "they hate our freedoms." Comic character Pogo Possum, during the height of the H-Bomb scare of the 1950's, said "We have met the Enemy, and He is Us." So, Mr. GWB, by uniting us in fear, we will also start to "hate our freedoms".

Our National Anthem says that America is supposed to be the 'home of the brave,' where is the bravery? We show bravado, but not true bravery. I support our troops but not their leaders. Even more importantly, I would support our nation.

Show some courage, America: bravado and aggression stemming from fear is not bravery.

I don't think any American questions the need for security. Speaking for myself, I pay my taxes for a reason and security shoud be in the top 5 ways it's spent.

Unfortunately, we are at a turning point. The current Administration has done far too many things in plain sight, questionable things and 'Classify' facts necessary for a proper investigation. George W. has called himself the 'Decider'! I don't want a 'decider', I want a 'LEADER'. Someone who doesn't need to use 'Classified' as justification for hiding facts.

Our Constitution was set up to protect our Freedoms from being infringed in the name of 'whatever'. Unfortunately, the other brances of government are shurking their duty and not performing in a manner which the Constitution DEMANDS! They are picking and choosing which crimes are investigated.

Trust is earned and lost. I think it's time 'WE THE PEOPLE' stand up while we can and get this rouge government to stand down! We are a country set up 'OF THE PEOPLE', 'BY THE PEOPLE' AND 'FOR THE PEOPLE'.

If we spread the word now and people with voices (Al Gore, Chuck Hagel, John Edwards, writers, actors, musicians, mayors, governors, etc. IF WE DON'T FIND OUR VOICES FAST, WE MAY ALL HAVE TO WHISPER AND LOOK BEHIND OUR BACKS TO SEE IF BLACKWATER IS LISTENING! IT'S TIME FOR SOME SCREAMING!

SPREAD THE WORD "WE ARE AMERICANS, HEAR US ROAR, WE AREN'T GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE. COME ON BACK AND POST SOLUTIONS TO GET OUR VOICES HEARD.

We need to campaign for voices. People appear on television everyday. They have voices! People are on the radio everyday! They have voices! We ar here! We have voices! SCREAM NOW BEFORE WE ALL GET LARENGITUS COMPLEMENTS OF A 'DECIDER' PUT IN OFFICE BY A SUPREME COURT!

Please forgive any misspelled words, or mistated grammar. I only have a limited time to post and my time is running out right now. No time for spell check!

    Peace and Freedom of Thought!

Do not sit idly by, do not remain neutral, do not rely on this broadcast alone. We are only as strong as our signal. There is a war going on for your mind.

If you are thinking you are winning. Resistance is victory, defeat is impossible. Your weapons are already in hand. Reach within you and find the means by which to gain your freedom. Fight with tools. Your fate and that of everyone you know depends on it

Our generation, the younger one, has never had to fight for our freedoms. Not for years have we had so much to lose and so many who don't care! We've enjoyed the fruit from our parents, grandparents and those before. There IS a war going on for our mind and I'm having nightmares that the American citizens are going to lose.

Our freedoms have been, and still are being taken away from us and we don't care. We grip and sit by and do nothing. We must get angry. We must take to the streets. We must make our leaders understand that this is NOT what we want and that we have the power to change it. Contact your elected officials and continue to do so.

Apathy is much more dangerous then an Atomic bomb.

Thought crimes. This is THE biggest bunch of garbage to come down the pike in a long time. How can anyone criminalize thought or even speech? More control by an increasingly controlling government. Liberalism run rampant. Unfortunately there seems to be no change in the upcoming elections this November.McCain is entreenched washington trying to recast himself as a conservative. Hillary is a joke. Hussein runs on the unifier/change ticket but his own party is split 50/50. He can't unify his own party much less a gaggle from both parties.
    We're screwed.

Is it too late to stop our country from turning into "Oceania" from Orwell's novel, 1984? Shouldn't freedom of speech cover peoples thoughts as well? "Thought Police" are just another one of the many things America shouldn't have to deal with.

    Just an opinion.

We are lost when we begin to think in terms of lib/con, rep/dem. They are one and the same.

There is a difference in their rhetoric but when you think about it, the big issues find them voting together. Some may get up and talk against it, some may shuffle to the microphone and talk about how they were 'duped', or 'they have the majority', etc. Some may actually vote in opposition.

For 50 years, probably more, the things that harm this country the most - globalization, unnecessary wars, power grabbing by the central government, illegal immigration, the blurring of our sovereignty, our diminishing education, etc., has marched right along. It hasn't mattered which 'party' is in power, whether they are the same as the WH or in opposition, those things have rolled along.

Surely we can conclude from that, they are on the same wave length as far as dismantling this country and our freedoms. There seems to me no other conclusion to draw.

No, I don't want a 'decider', but I don't want a 'leader' either. I want an executive, a President. that follows the constitution and puts the US and it's people first.

If we have 'leaders',then that makes us 'followers' and I don't think the founding fathers ever intended that we be the 'followers' in this nation.

    Just my opinion.

Thought Crime is 'the silencing of voices of Americans who want to change the spin'. Mainstream media has been co-conspirators, by aiding this administration with the use of their voice and spin (yellow journalism).

Hell, this administration has been almost cannibals. They even eat their own. When any of their 'own people' have dared to speak up, or write books about the direction that we are being taken, they are silenced. If mainstream media does not report it, it's as though it never happened. Instead we get to hear when Britney, or some other air head farts.

Mainstream media spun us into the Democratic battle we are now in. They silenced the voices of the other Democratic candidates, by not covering what their ideas for the future were. They also spun us into a war of aggression against a country that had not killed one American. They chose to give louder voices to Generals who were being told what to say by this administration, over the voices of people who were trying to speak up and stop the war of choice against Iran. It's an 'Assault on Reason'!

The only way we can get back our airwaves is to hold sponsors accountable for the spinning going on by mainstream media. It's not one or two channels, they all cover the same spin. It's as though they are reading for the same script. How can they all think Britney or whom ever, is more important than 'Thought Crimes'? How can they all refuse to report this 'Thought Crimes' bill? We let them do it that's how.

Mainstream media survives via sponsors. Sponsors survive via (us) the consumers. We survive as a Free Nation via Free Speech! Let's figure out ways to force them to cover important topics. I think if sponsors would be forced to choose us or them. They would have to choose us, or they couldn't afford to sponsor anything. They would be filing for bankruptcy. They need to know if they continue to let the media they are sponsoring 'spin', fluff news over news we can use, we will work to eliminate the power of their advertising dollar. If we don't buy their products, their advertising dollars are wasted.

Power of the people, via power of our purses! News being spun is, news being distorted. We need facts not distortion!

Any bill or any law that seeks to infringe on our constitutional rights is invalid from the moment it becomes law. Unconstitutional law need not be obeyed and any actions take under such law are considered illegal. Let us not be so cynical as to believe such a law will ever be passed and put to a constitutional test.

    donlking

    DO NOT LET THIS PASS.

We can not let this become a law. Your freedoms will be repressed and we will end up like a society in George Orwell's 1984.

The main thing we need to remember is - Violence gives them reason to enforce the power they have gained through legislation already inacted. The so called 'Patriot Act' gives them the ammunition they need to squash any violence. We need to support non-violence first and formost or all is lost.

We need 'Patriotic Americans' with voices who are willing to speak up and lead us in our quest to remain FREE!

FREE THOUGHT, FREE SPEECH, FREE AND HONEST ELECTIONS! DEMAND TRUTH IN JOURNALISM, OUT THE SPIN!

I'd tell you what I think of thought crimes, but they might arrest me.

This would never hold up in an actual court of law.

  •

Not much for objective journalism, (ie descriptions such as "war mongering" and "facist", however accurate they may be)

But this is an alarming issue, especially for citizen journalists who use the web.

I think it is a very scary concept, but take solace in the fact that the American people won't let this happen. Whether its through mass peaceful demonstration or the secret operation of pirate internet servers, the internet will always exist as the ultimate embodiment of freedom of speech.

When the congress passed the Patriot Act most people just stood and watched, and from then on we kept losing our civil rights like no other.

This is what happens when the government gets hijacked by neocons.

    Wake up people!

Somehow or someone has got to wake up Americans while we still have a similance of a free country. Somehow America has got to return to the Great Country we once were. One of the only ways this is going to happen is if our leaders want it to happen. America needs a leader very badly. Somehow we must find good leaders who believe in America and its people. We have had eight years of tourterous leadership (If it can be called that) I guess I should say no leadership of any value for Americans and most of the rest of the world. Somehow something must be done. There is only one saving thought, we cannot sink much lower before it all collapses upon itself. What a terrible situation the America is in. Thank you DUMB YA and your cronies. I hope someome knows how to reverse eight years of destruction.
