Watch Senator Barack Obama tell how he passes a senate bill to protect citizens from nuclear radiation leaks from power plants.

Only problem, he didn't pass the bill.

The bill he proposed, he gutted after pressure from Republican Senators, the nuclear power industry, contributions over $300,000 from Excelon employees.

Then he let it die on the senate floor without passage.

Senator Obama knew the bill he told the democratic primary voters wasn't the one he describes and that it didn't pass when he said these words you see on the video.

This is an important lie.

    • UPDATE - June 21, 2008
Senator Obama just flipflopped and said he will vote for the FISA legislation that legitimizes spying on Americans.
Obama supports spying on Americans and giving the telecom multinational corporations immunity for their crimes under the Bush administration.
Is this the change Obama promises?
Anyone who researched Obama's actions, instead of being wowed by the vaque promise for change in his inspiring speeches is not surprised by this position Senator Obama takes against the people of America.
The senator lied to Iowa Democratic Primary Voters about the senate nuclear bill he passed, but gutted and let die on the Senate floor after pressure from Senate Republicans, Excelon and the Nuclear Power Industry.Senator Obama also voted for the Bush/Cheney Energy Bill that gave subsidies to the oil, gas, and nuclear energy multinational corporations.
Anyone who believes Obama's pledge to Green the economy and develop sustainable energy production should research how their candidate voted to perpetuate the rape of the earth by oil, gas and nuclear industries.
Given Obama's vote for the Bush/Cheney Energy Bill, why should we be surprised he'd bend over for the Republican leadership on FISA and vote to give immunity to the Bush//Cheney Administration and the telecoms who continue to spy on American citizens?
What about Obama's turn around on NAFTA and Free Trade? Public Financing of Elections?
      Honest? Trust? Hope? Change?
Progressives and those on the left who want real change that will benefit all the people will be disappointed if Obama is elected president. Barack Obama has already shown how too often, his words do not match his actions.

    • I am not voting for Obama for, among other things, he lied about passing the bill to voters after he knew he had gutted it and let it die on the Senate floor.

That to me is a lie on the job, that could result in the death of children and other Americans.

If a man can lie about something so grave, with such ease, I can not trust him to look out for the people if he were elected president.

    • Obama's actions of gutting the bill to please nuclear energy industry and Republican Senators and then not being able to pass it and letting it die on the senate floor, shows he's not too good at the job for which Illinois voters sent him to the Senate.

That counts for those who value action and ability over words.

Senator Wants to Halve Consumption of Foreign Oil by 2025

      By Dan Balz
      Washington Post Staff Writer
      Wednesday, May 24, 2006; Page A06

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) said yesterday that the United States should cut its consumption of foreign oil in half by 2025, and outlined a national strategy of tax incentives, an oil-profits tax and more funds for research aimed at spurring conservation and development of alternative sources of energy.

The prospective 2008 presidential candidate warned of dire consequences if the nation fails to curb its energy consumption habits, asserting that inaction in the face of rising oil prices and terrorist threats puts both national security and the country's economic competitiveness at risk.
