  • i think it's time for you to make a mega-pod from all the footage you've shot of this homeless experiment. I especially liked the earlier stuff of people being interviewed about their experiences. Homelessness is a compelling story that should get the maximum treatment.
That's from someone who's been there.

  • Good question, brothalc

  • DC! My second home. Their are homeless people that have become famous within the area for being as apart of the city, just like a landmark.

  • John McCain would have them water boarded and then sent to Guantanamo Bay, durr.
  • I agree you need to put together a major presentation of all of your footage! The homeless challenge is something that has received very little attention because not many people know about it but because I experienced it I am able to speak to my campus and friends about it. People need to open their eyes to what is going on...a block from the whitehouse! You rock LC!

  • current is so wonderful because it gets questions out there that are so much more meaningful than the ones "professionals" are asking ! I hope the candidates would appreciate a question like this rather than attempt to have it censored out of a debate

  • Good question! I went on a couple of field trips to D.C. and saw the same thing and that was in 1993 and again in 97. I dont think politicians dont care about these people as long as its not them. It's really sad and shameful. Someone has to do something.

  • get rid of the effects. the footage is powerful enough on its own, in fact you should have more.

  • Yeah, this definitely needs to be put together into a single pod.

However, the issue of homeless people is very complicated. I am currently speaking about the homeless in my home country of Slovakia. We have many homeless people on the streets.Unemployment is around 9% here;however, this figure obviously does NOT include homeless people and people who aren't looking for jobs. A small percentage of the homeless sell special magazines Nota bene http://www.notabene.sk/) for a minimum charge of around $2; however, the rest are usually very rude and very drunk. What should we do with these people? How do we distinguish between one and the other?

About the situation close to the White House: Should the government spend money on homeless homes for drunk homeless (that is if they are), does it spend money for alcohol rehab or does it just kick them out to some other area of DC? It doesn't really matter because I don't really see MOST congressmen caring.

What about the DC City council? Have they been doing anything to solve the issue of homelessness?

  • I fear that if enough pressure is put about the homeless around the White house area, the only thing done will be harass them out of there.

  • I as well would like to hear what the candidates position would be on the homeless of our country.

Sadly there is going to be alot more, with the massive amounts of people loosing their homes due to the government turning their heads and not putting a stop to all the predator lenders, taking advantage of people in this country.

The government should have been looking out for us americans and should do more to help the homeless, not spend trillions of dollars to help people in other countries. Our people should come first!
  • You should turn this into a pod and upload it directly to the current.com site. So it can be eligble to run on Current TV.

Just a thought, If there are no more homeless there will be no need for the jobs people hold who take care of the homeless-- which will result in more homeless people due to lose of position.

Isn't the homeless situation a problem that was heightened during the Reagan Presidency when he released mental patients on the streets during the 80's?

Isn't the homeless situation a problem growing due to the drug policies of the 80's, and the lack of proper treatment of those afflicted with a drug dependency disease?

To keep it all the way real, not my thought process on it-- but, America is the land of opportunity, and if you don't take advantage of the opportunities this land affords to you, it's on you; some have said!

In otherwords, if you don't pull yourself up, don't look towards the government to help you out of a situation you put yourself in-- especially when you live in a country that allows you to be you, and a country that allows you to make all the money that you can.

Thoughts like these are the main reason homelessness will most likely never be eliminated, it's too much money in it. America is the country that allows you to make all that you can make, even off of others' misfortune.

  • And why don't you ask how many of those homeless people are homeless because of their own irresponsibility, laziness or criminal behavior?

Not everyone who looks like a victim is a victim.
And frankly those who are in this situation due to their own actions or lack of actions for that matter deserve what they get and noone should pay for their housing.
