this kid will grow up to be a serial killer , or a pyromaniac - there's just no way to reverse the trauma his brain has experienced in it's formative years - he's doomed .

muscles don't grow, memories don't store, there is a lot that happens while you sleep that is vital to your health. i wonder if his brainwaves change while remaining conscious or something. most people will flat out die at 12 days without sleep. after reading the article it still doesn't explain how he's alive. he flat out shouldn't be.

The kid doesn't really look grouchy...he looks pretty happy about not sleeping. Most people will die of sleep deprivation before food deprivation. Maybe this kid represents a new genetic direction for humans?

try giving him marijuana, worth a shot.

have you tried to give this kid some benadryl, turn on bob ross during the fall and crank the heat in the home .. he's bound to tinker with sleep like never before.

I wish I didn't have to sleep, I could get so much done with that time or have fun with that time .

Poor kid (and parents) hopefully the surgery will be a success and he will be able to live a normal life.

Sleep deprivation is serious, the irritability should be the least of the parents concern. But clearly no sleep for three years would cause other problems for the parents! I hope the surgery helps. Then they can all get some rest.

Even with drugs(most) he won't be getting REM sleep. I'm surprised his brain hasn't exploded.

dont people spend like a third of their life sleeping. IF i had this condition, i'd try to break a world record doing something stupid for a long time

I remember hearing somewhere that they recently found that sleep was NOT required. However if you try this you NEED some sort of replacement down time, kid probably sits very still watching cartoons for 7 hours a day for all we know.
