Rhett Lamb, 3, is one grouchy little youngster.
Why?-- Because he does NOT SLEEP.
He is awake nearly 24 hours a day, every day.
Doctors are baffled.
...poor parents....

hes nuts! maybe a evolution! hes gonna eb awak for 5 years and then sleep for 5 years!
-
sleep is psycological right?
-
this kid will grow up to be a serial killer , or a pyromaniac - there's just no way to reverse the trauma his brain has experienced in it's formative years - he's doomed .
-
i think he will be a pyrotechnician
-
muscles don't grow, memories don't store, there is a lot that happens while you sleep that is vital to your health. i wonder if his brainwaves change while remaining conscious or something. most people will flat out die at 12 days without sleep. after reading the article it still doesn't explain how he's alive. he flat out shouldn't be.
-
The kid doesn't really look grouchy...he looks pretty happy about not sleeping. Most people will die of sleep deprivation before food deprivation. Maybe this kid represents a new genetic direction for humans?
-
try giving him marijuana, worth a shot.
-
Valium, maybe?

Poor kid (and parents) hopefully the surgery will be a success and he will be able to live a normal life.
-
Sleep deprivation is serious, the irritability should be the least of the parents concern. But clearly no sleep for three years would cause other problems for the parents! I hope the surgery helps. Then they can all get some rest.
-
can't imagine how his Ps are handling that. I'd be slitting my wrists...
-
wow. I can't imagine! I sleep any chance I get.
Even with drugs(most) he won't be getting REM sleep. I'm surprised his brain hasn't exploded.-

Is there anyone else alive right now with this problem?
-
dont people spend like a third of their life sleeping. IF i had this condition, i'd try to break a world record doing something stupid for a long time
-
This kid as a natural skill. One day all that energy will come to good use.
-
And now the Matrix comes true. People will be harvested as batteries to power our machines of death.
Awesome.-

I remember hearing somewhere that they recently found that sleep was NOT required. However if you try this you NEED some sort of replacement down time, kid probably sits very still watching cartoons for 7 hours a day for all we know.
-
This kid is a new genetic experiment...sponsored by Red Bull or Amp Energy Drink.
-
He has a red ipod as a heart.

May as well make him start taking some sort of classes....He can learn to do something with all that spare time. That, or it will bore him to sleep. Problem solved.

I've got a dog like this, though I hope this kid doesn't jump on his dad's face at 3 a.m. when he needs to go out to pee.
-
Damn, I want an implant that does the same thing as his condition that I can turn on and off.

24French proposed an interesting concept: What if future generations require less sleep? Maybe this is simply a very extreme example. I have a very strange internal clock that doesn't match up with the sun. sometimes I'll be up for days at a time without my body telling me "time to sleep" and I will go weeks sometimes averaging only 4 hours of sleep a night, without feeling any heavy exhaustion. I wonder if anyone has any insights. Maybe there are parents who notice their kids having weird sleep patterns too...
