Green City China

dongtan.jpgBritish design consultancy Arup has announced that it has been tapped by the Chinese government to lead the construction of an "eco-city" expansion to Shanghai. Dongtan, the expanded development near Shanghai's airport, will eventually cover about 8,800 hectares -- roughly the size of Manhattan island. Shanghai claims that the Dongtan project will be "the world's first genuinely eco-friendly city," using recycled water, cogeneration and biomass for energy, and striving to be as carbon-neutral as possible.
The first phase, a 630 hectare development including a mix of transport facilities, schools, housing and high-tech industrial spaces, will begin construction late next year, and is expected to be completed by 2010....

All we have to do is make going 'Green' profitable and the world will be clean in no time!

This sounds very sustainable oriented and must be nearly complete if their calcs are correct. i'd like to see the real deal...this is not a new idea...but still needs to be implimented around the world...it is part of our future if some Big Oil / Mega defense contractor / Multi-nationals will get their heads out of their...(where the sun don't shine)...too busy lookig at the bottom line...sucking up to the Base...
How ironic...they can't figure out how to have a Constitution like ours, with freedom of religion, civil liberties, and so on...but they're getting the jump on us when it comes to this stuff...
it is so sad what they did to the Tibetans...the many monks and the many monasteries that were destroyed, alone was so shameful and atrocious...
Keep the dream alive, patsarts
Thanks for digging this up TouchArt-

How come everybody else is gettin' all green? What the hell are we doing? Oh, nevermind. I forgot. We're too busy fighting for oil over there where everybody looks the same.
-
Rebuild green in New Orleans, Mississippi, Oklahoma and everywhere disasters strike.
-
Yes, we will build green...
What determines the true scale of ultimate power in this world, the size of the bombs or the influence of ideas..?-
