I FULLY support the decision of hers to wear that dress and am firmly AGAINST the decision to have her removed.

Maybe she thought it was a beach theme? Pool party? I'd like to see a photo of her date's face when he saw her.
-
she can't wear her work clothes to school, we all know this...

I don't know, should she be able to wear what she wants to prom?
-
**Gasp!** How DARE she show off her stomach and legs! I am engorged... err.. I mean enraged just looking at her! SEND HER HOME NOW!!
Bah... why are stories like this even news? On a side note, was it neccesary to escort her out in handcuffs? I was unaware wearing a skimpy dress at a high school prom was a violation of Houston law. -
All I can say is, if I was her father her choice would have been to get more reasonable looking prom dress or stay home. I would never let my daughter go to a prom looking like a high priced hooker.
-
Doesn't it get hot there, this time of year? Was there any air conditioning where they had the prom?
All that dancing probably works up a sweat, so there might have been a good reason to wear an outfit like that -
Hot Mess!
-
She was removed from the prom in handcuffs??? Since when is a skimpy, ill-advised outfit cause for arrest?
-
While I would usually support a person's right to wear whatever they want (no matter how much it makes them look like a complete skank), it's perfectly acceptable that they told her she wasn't allowed to wear it to prom. Prom is a school function, and therefore subject to school rules, and if the teachers would send you home for wearing it to school, well, there you go.
As for being escorted out in handcuffs, I got the impression that she became belligerent when asked to leave and probably threw a fit, forcing them to call the cops on her (skanky) ass.
Yay for good parenting on this one. /sarcasm -
I did not know there were rules to what you can wear to the prom. I wonder what actual text supports her doing something unlawful. I think it's bullshit. as long as she's not explicitly revealing private parts, she should wear whatever she wants. It's a ridiculous shameful double standard to take this girl out in cuffs.
you cant lay all blame on the parents. Nor, in my opinion, is there anything on which to cast blame in the first place, except maybe on the administrators for being uppity and old, or on the police for accomodating such a lame directive.
besides, She's in Houston! It's hot down there! When it's hot, you dont dress like a puritan. Ask the Brasileiros.

She might as well have warn nothing.
It matters what you wear. You cannot wear a wife beater and go into a place of business to get a job and expect to be taken seriously.
This is no different. If you want to be treated with respect then dress that way.
She got treated the way she was dressed. -
When I was in school, we got in trouble for wearing hats in class. Hats. So I agree with the person above who said that prom is a school event and therefore subject to the school's rules. That dress is a bit much... or not so much, I guess.
As for sending her out in handcuffs? A bit unnecessary. But seriously, where were the parents in all this?-

I hear you J_Jammer, but where do we draw the line between personal repsonsibility and social perseption?
Would dress be inappropriate for an adult overseeing the prom? I wonder if they would've escorted her out in handcuffs...-

I also didn't know "acting like a cunt" was a criminal offense. Perhaps we should re-arrest some celebutants in Hollywood then instead of just focusing on high school proms.

sure she has the right to wear what she wants to prom,
but i think she should have had a tad more self-respect before dawning that outfit.-

stepph I agree with you in the self-respect department. But I also do believe there are dress codes at events like this as well as for everyday attire to school.

I think her dress is exotic, and saying she probably acts like a cunt is really saying a lot about you, not her.
yes, J_J, it matters what you wear. it also matters how you spell.-

Looks like the dress is home-made. Maybe she couldn't afford more fabric?

I resent the controlling attitude that a lot of school administrators have. MYOB! (Mind Your Own Business!)
-
School event = school's rules.... as much as you agree or disagree with their decision it is theirs, and theirs alone to make. Just like they can remove people from their premises and can call the cops if you refuse to leave.
***Edit***
In case you didn't have a chance to read the prom dress code rules, Stone246's comment, the ones that were given with purchase of her prom ticket, they were in the video link from CNN. It also has a place where the students attending had to sign saying that they read and understood the guidelines.
They were as followed:
1. Only one inch of the midsection can be shown.
2. Bare back are acceptable
3.Slits in the dress can be no more than three inches above the knee.
4. see through fabrics should not be in places which reveal private body parts.
5. Proper undergarments must be worn.
6. Tennis shoes of any kind are unacceptable.
Note: Please remember this is a black tie affair. Guidelines printed are for all guests in attendance.
You can't say she wasn't warned.-

so where can we read the text of the school policy? where did the student have access to it before she decided to wear that dress? were the rules made clear to her? do we even know the answers to these questions?

stephen, i cant imagine she had no idea about the limits of the school dress code. there are ALWAYS school rules about the revealing of midriffs and how short skirts can be. While i understand why people get upset when school administrators control too much, I cant blame them for it. I would be offended if someone showed up to my prom, which is supposed to be a classy event, dressed like a stripper or something else ridiculous. I think she's in the wrong.
-
Everyone who thinks he's a hooker should be quiet, honestly. It's wrong to set up a strict dress code for High School seniors, frankly, especially when her "privates" are not exposed, which would thus make it illegal.

I think she is the winner over here. The school's attempt to prevent her from showing this outfit to the world is clearly a failure. She is not famous.

High-priced? You're FAR too kind... -

Wild, Some people don't understand school isn't the place to be a mess.
-
School systems seem to try to promote moralism and conservative social standards, especially in Texas.

I think this is just an opportunity to scream "injustice," but its really not. I'm a very liberal minded person in terms of dress code, but when you are talking about prom, i think something like this is a little bit much . I could be wrong though.
-
She's going to the prom for Christ's sakes, not the corner of 24th and Van Buren. Before I read the header, I saw the picture and thought it was a bikini.
-
Not surprising. Don't most schools have dress codes for prom now? I know mine did (and it wasn't THAT long ago). What would make you think you'd get away with wearing that?
-
Perhaps it was just a prom dress malfunction.

Who went shopping with her and said "Buy that! Now!"

Thank god when I wore something like that I didn't get kicked out, it was just going to the prom and look sexy.
If you have the body to show it, why not do that?
Freedom of expression right? tsss
