Pupils in primary schools across the country will be introduced to Hector’s World, a series of five animated characters including Hector the dolphin and PC Jim, who will explore how to use the internet safely.

  • Are minor educational initiatives like this sufficient. Shouldn't all governments enforce web-moderation upon all search engines, hosts, group users and the like?

  • I think it's got to be a good thing warning kids about internet safety. You hear tragic stories of kids that have met 'friends' online and then gone to meet them in person only to find they have been grossly deceived.

    We warn kids about all the other dangers they face in life, road safety, drugs etc, so why should being safe online be any different. I'm not saying it's a finite answer to the problem, rather a step in the right direction.
