Ban GTA IV for killing virtual people, but what world do we live in?

Surely the problem is not that watching violence on screen & committing it in computer games causes people to go and commit violence themselves, but that it *desensitises* people to violence and thus indirectly causes them to be either more likely to commit a violent act or to not treat such an act as real. innit.

  • I don't know where you live, or who you've been talking to , but that's always what the argument has been about: "Blah blah blah GTA desensitises people to violence blah blah"

  • Here's an idea. Why don't we ban semi-automatic weapons from being sold out of gun shows? The last time I checked, you don't need to pump a deer with 20 rounds of bullets to 'Git er Done'.

  • The idea that video game violence desensitizes people to violence is complete crap. There are depths to real life violence that video games could never grasp, and because of those depths people who play video games will not become apathetic to real world violence.

    Besides, the only reason that many people choose video games as creator of violent children is because those few kids who have committed violent acts have played video games of a violent nature. However, considering how many kids above the age of 8 play or have played extremely violent video games I think that it is safe to conclude that it does not desensitize our children.
