Leviathan powers your home with every flush

Hydroelectric power is generated when moving water passes through turbines. Why stick to water in rivers says Leviathan Energy, a Delaware-incorporated company with R&D in Israel. Water moving through the sewer system could work too! Some extreme TreeHuggers let yellow water mellow, but with Leviathan’s Benkatine Turbine you can feel less guilty –– by generating power with every flush of the toilet.

  • I'm gonna go flush my toilet a a sh*t load of times now! Heh. It's true though. There's even some that use the ocean tide to generate power. The guy that invented them was on World News's: Person of the Week on ABC a while ago. gotta find his article.

  • How much water does it use to make the power? Isn't this wasteful regarding water?

  • I suspose with water meters the cost of the flush would be more then the return it created in electricity but like CarlosIsDown the points out we could have unmetered users flushing their way to free power.

I think Leviathan is a bit of a grand name for a unit that exists in my cistern.

  • Great idea but wouldn't . . . . stuff . . . get stuck in it, causing wicked toilet clogging <joke>and potentially blackouts?</joke>

  • JanforGore, it seems that this is simply utilizing the water that is already being flushed down the toilet. It is harnessing energy that is wasted with every flush. I think inventions such as this, that recover small amounts of energy that are wasted every day, are great. Although the amount of energy saved may seem inconsequential, if we had a whole network of devices such as this it could offset our consumption. This reminds me of a small company in NYC that is developing a revolving door generator to capture the energy used to enter buildings through these doors.

  • " leviathan" ? i'm nervous just thinking about the word "leviathan" and taking a crap . a "leviathan" is a freaking dragon like beast often described as dwelling in oceans , in mythology - i get this image of crapping out an evil anus ripping mother-load which goes on to be shackled and tapped as a source of energy - it's not a pleasant thing to think about .

  • I understand that. I'm just wondering how many times you would have to flush to keep your lights on.

  • There are so many household methods of generating electricity. If we had all of it installed and fed to a central battery, all homes could be self sustained.

Geo-theremal, Wind, Solar, Hydro - they're all options.
