Mom-and-pop service stations are running into a problem as gasoline marches toward $4 a gallon: Thousands of old-fashioned pumps can't register more than $3.99 on their spinning mechanical dials.
-
Well that says it all. NO ONE should be required to pay more than the already ridiculous price of $3.99 a gallon-especially when scumbag oil companies are posting their largest profits ever. Why rising gas prices aren't daily headlines is just another example of what our gov't controlled media "chooses" to cover each day. Where is that good old American outrage when we need it most?

Even old gas pumps are choking on the prices.

Mom and Pop? Those still exist: amazing...
I thought Wal*Mart forced all of them out of business? -
that sense of ownership that 'Americans' should do this and shouldn't do that is exactly the mentality that is driving both liberals and conservatives to the ground.
-
Well 3.99 seems like the price of a liter in Italy, when I lived there in 1999. I think the gallon back then was like $7 around that time, in the US was 98cents in most of Calif. Then again, Americans should always have the best easier life, bigger yards, cars, egos etc, right.

Anyhow, good post & cool picture btw -
Cool photo! But yeah, the US has had it so easy with its low oil prices for years. It only started looking at fuel economy during the 70s crisis, and when OPEC was friendly again, they let the standards slide. It's nobody's fault but their own.

You know that one time somebody had to ask...
"How high should we the price gage read?"
"Hell, it'll never make four bucks!" -
Cyanfox, Fancy that... Walmart doesn't sell Gasoline.

Cool info!
The separations of generations have cause the present to be the way it is. -
Shouldn't they worry about getting the gas prices down instead of worry how they are going to continue taking more money from us?

Oh no! America has to pay what everyone else in the world does for fuel! Get over it people. Take comfort in the fact that as supply dwindles and demand continues to escalate, the need for vehicles that are super fuel efficient will begin to hit the market.
Stop complaining. Buy a hybrid. -

what museum is that pump in...?
-
More so someone knew in the 50's when they made those pumps they knew just what they were doing. Do you think they had plans to rape american's for oil prices. Even worse over 58 more years the fat cats keep getting fatter and more greedy while the rest of suffer. For myself a cynical fellow, I'm not certain about our future and how fast it may lead to failure.
-
It's saddening to see that we're rapidly approaching and passing $3.99, it's nice to see at one time we didn't even consider passing $3.99, and it's refreshing to see that someday in the future, we won't have to worry about $3.99.

Same thing happend in Sweden.
All the old ones cant display more than 9,99 Swedish crowns. And at the moment the gas is as high as 13,74 crowns. That's $2.25, however we pay in liters not gallons. -
A little food for thought: If you remove the artificial inflation brought on by commodities speculation, the ACTUAL supply/demand controlled price for a barrel of oil right now is $55-80US.
