Well, according to flame-haired Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall it is.

The carrot-topped crooner criticised people who make fun of redheads in an interview with the Sunday Mercury, saying: "It's like racism, not the same but the principle is similar. It has become acceptable to mock people for the colour of their hair or the way they talk and it saddens me that this gets perpetuated from generation to generation."

To summarise then, it's like racism, but it's not, but it's sort of similar... ish.

Hairism? Tressism? I wonder if his criticisms extend to the people who tell blonde jokes.

Mick should be used to people mocking him by now. His hair, his clothes, his voice, his cold dead eyes.

As Tony Ferrino says "The only people in my country with ginger hair are clowns."

It's hard to accept your own flaws. Thankfully I have none.

As a Ginge I can see where he's coming from but it's never really bothered me. Besides, in my experience it's pretty much a strictly U.K. thing. Ginges are treated as Sacred Gods* in the U.S.

Either way, there's so much to mock Mick Hucknall for why start & finish with his hair?

    *contains 60% exaggeration.

Doctor: Ms. Cartman, I know this must be very difficult for you. I, for one, can't stand red-haired freckled kids. But you need to understand, there is no cure. Your son will be ginger his whole life. You might want to just... put him down

Cartman: (over a megaphone) We gingers are proud people. We are the decendants of great Americans such as Ron Howard and others. We will not be discriminated against any longer, for we are a great race!

I have dark brown hair, if someone mocked me would that make them racist as well.

There's a history to his statement that many might not know. Irish people were not considered to be 'white' until fairly recently (think 20th century). They were treated very poorly, at least in the US - they were forced, like the Chinese, to walk after building the transcontinental railroad and then being barred from riding it. They have faced a lot more scorn than people realize, and although I'm not a redhead myself, I have strong Irish roots and so I at least can sympathize. Besides, redheads are hawt. They always have beautiful, thick, wavy hair and, well, they're hawt.
