Wedge issues designed to preoccupy the masses, or how great works of art are redefined by Indiana

War, death and destruction GOOD; the human body BAD!

Indiana has passed new legislation declaring art work portraying the human body unsuitable for humans. Great artist once considered by the vast majority of humanity throughout the ages to posses a "divine gift" such as Michelangelo are now determined to be "PORNOGRAPHERS" in the eyes of the enlightened Indiana legislature. Never mind the work of the "Divine himself".

Next up on the "enlightened'" Indiana State legislature's agenda; a bill to ban all mirrors and "reflective surfaces" for fear "horny" sexual deviates might view themselves; become uncontrollably aroused; and violate themselves - oh, and children of course.

"Even seemingly innocent reflective surfaces can be turned into "PORNOGRAPHIC" paraphernalia such as car side and rear view mirrors, shiny cook wear, CD jewel cases and even patent leather shoes" excitedly exclaimed one erect 'member' of the Indianan legislature.

Also, credit to Tori of 'Current' fame for deleting my first couple of (graphic, sexually explicit pornographic - involving animals and miscellaneous farm equipment) pictures and finding this one. Thanks Tori!

Oh, and Vote for Obama and let's put an end to this sort of thing!

  • I don't think my politics have changed at all since 1984, when I was considered a conservative Democrat instead of a rabid progressive. Every once in a while, since I live in a college town, I still have the luxury of thinking "I'm not so far to the left, after all."

Then something like this hits the news and reminds me how far to the right the rest of the country has moved.

  • Stand up against censorship.

What is really obscene is violence, killing, poverty and war.

  • That's mostly to get knee-jerk emotional reactions so they can grab attention to cloud the issues. Because you know they're going to drag the children into it.

Didn't Hugh Hefner have the some of same problems when he started Playboy? Can't they use some of the legal precedents he did to get around that?

  • Next Indiana will ban pets !!!

What is wrong with the people who vote there, are they not involved in their state government? Remember if you gie an inch, they ake a mile, people have to be vigilant about what thier repersentatives are up to.

  • Maybe they have a real point, the cheapening of the brand through over exposure to images of it's naked flesh has left us in a situation where people think it's ok to hurt and kill each other.

Perhaps this is how they plan to help ragain respect for the individual human being.

Maybe if it doesn't work there will be a sickly sweat drink we can all drink at once,,,,,,,

    Censorship is BAD !

  • Appreciation for the beautiful human form does not denigrate it nor reduce our respect for others.

You (no one in particular) learns how and what consideration to give others, physically, emotionally and psychologically AT HOME from birth - maybe before.

A person raised with healthy respect, learns to respect others and is not "altered" by viewing the human body in "God's" dress (wearing only skin, naked, nude, butt naked, birthday suit, stripped, exposed, bare), pornography or anything else.

So, you say what about those who weren't raised to respect others? I say; remember the nasty elementary school teacher who would punish everyone because of something one person did? Why reduce the healthy interaction of society to the "conditioned" state of a small percentage of dysfunctionals? And how does suppressing the expression of healthy individuals help those who are dysfunctional suffering from arrested development??

I'll tell you why! It draws into question the mental health of all those elected officials and public servants who use power, position and a super ego of some kind as a bandage for real self-esteem derived from a healthy psychology / developed personality who ignorantly exploit these kinds of issues.

You can tell those who are merely compensating for (little man / woman's complex) because they are the first to judge and condemn, they have the least compassion for the suffering of their fellow humans.

Those attempting to compensate for their own developmental issues ALWAYS seek to inflict punishment, harm and suffering on others "they" deem unfit - and never and are not capable of helping them. As a result, their misguided approach is an attempt to expunge their internal demons, but externally. They are the enemy, and the enemy is often us. This is not the way!

In this society, it is nearly impossible to develop ones personality / psychology unaffected.

This brings me to the Republican mentality; those who are seriously in denial derive a sense of empowerment and exhilaration from destructive acts, from disobedience, from killing, from violating others, from wanton and willful disregard for others. Who falls into this category: Bush; Cheney; Rove; Rumsfeld; the Israeli government; and all who sign on in blind allegiance who ignore the lies, deception and corruption. People who feel the profundity of the Constitution is obsolete - and no longer applicable in our time - or is it their interpretation that is lacking?

Why do they do this? It is the feeling of righteousness it gives them - still a compensation for undeveloped personalities / psychology resulting from neglect and abuse of varying degrees. It is their dysfunctional view validated. The feeling is a drug that is hard to get off of. I am not speaking from personal experience.

  • Does any one else think that it was ridiculous how ABC blurred out the nude parts of the statues and paintings they showed in the report? I thought it was a joke on the first one, but they did it throughout the piece. Is that normal?! Or were they scared of getting in trouble in Indiana?

  • Thank you shampton - by all means. The work is beautiful - not pornographic. I hope this artist isn't in Indiana!

I entered the information by I don't see it - I'll put it in the text. Thanks

  • To answer your question Tori, yes ABC is scared of getting another $500,000 fine like they did for showing Janet Jackson's nipple at the Superbowl. Apparently the FCC has the same attitude as the people that pass those laws in Indiana
    Argon18
  • It could hardly be argued that ABC would get a fine for showing the "nipples" or other aspects of human anatomy of works of the "masters". Especially, since these works of art have been photographed, filmed, published and broadcast for decades if not hundreds of years.

    Seriously, it was bizarre.

  • Whatever are they going to do about National Geographic in Indiana?
  • ha! that would be awesome if he lived in indiana! well, i think he's in europe, where they're not as uptight as us americans about nudity in art :)
    shampton
  • National Geographic is just the liberal media inserting porn into journalism under the facade of science... ;)
    phillyphil
  • It's the Indianapolis museum of art bookstore, not Creepy Waldo's masturbatorium and dildo hut! And I thought Illinois was messed up. The man they interviewed is right, they shouldn't be legislating morality.

  • i cant believe that they blurred out nude sculptures. that is unbelievable. i can feel france laughing at us right now...
legislation that make us hate our bodies is sooooo garden of eden. i thought there was a separation of church and state...?

  • Yes, France is laughing. Their thinking "gee, we almost gave them a nude statue of Liberty! So much for the Revolution!

  • What happened to the first amendment? Freedom of Speech anyone!?!
    uroborus8
  • THAT is the dumbest thing! how can u reject art like that, its freedom of expression! Accusing it to be porn are u kidding me? we have more important things to look at like global warming nd warfare for example. Instead of complaining about how u think art work on the human body should be band because u think all boys get horny looking at it!!! THAT IS DUMB!

So, let's give the state more and more power so they can impose more ridiculous moral legislation on us. Shame on the Indianan legislature.

"I am not a friend to a very energetic government. It is always oppressive." – Thomas Jefferson

"If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all." – Noam Chomsky

  • ....Yet another reason why California should secede. Something tells me this won't last long though. This is, however, really fucking scary.
  • Thanks for catching the blurring of body parts by ABC.

Shortly after John Ashcroft became Attorney General, he had the private parts on the statues in DC covered.

  • Good one TouchArt. Nothing like a larger than life breast complete with erect nipple in our nations capital of hypocrites.

You think that's all the nude female art those who think they should tell us what's good for us have in their midst? Not even close!
