"Apparently the editors of People have a bit of a problem differentiating between Asian males. On page 38 of this week's issue, in which an interview with Korean Speed Racer actor Karl Yune is accompanied by text identifying him as Korean pop star Rain.

Still, there are two reasons why the mistake is particularly unforgivable. One: Rain, who routinely places first in Time magazine's "100 Most Influential People" online poll, honestly looks nothing like Yune. Two: the story was written by someone named Alexis Chiu, whom we assume is Asian and should thus totally have known better."

  • Yup, Time Magazine probably at one time labelled a photo of Zhang Ziyi with my name... And a photo of me was likely labelled Hideki Matsui.

  • uh, the article criticizing People states that Karl Yune is the actor in Speed Racer being interviewed when it's actually Rain. People just used the wrong picture. Maybe they should get their facts straight before criticizing someone else. Not that I care about People magazine or celebrities in general, but I thought Radar Online's slip-up was particularly funny.

  • all asians don't look the same. however, most japanese look the same, koreans, chinese, vietnamese etc. i can differentiate between them yet if its a group of the same people, i'm screwed.

  • Funny how they made that mistake. It says a lot more about the editors at People than about Rain’s popularity

    I just saw the new Speed Racer movie and Rain had a very good part in it. I was suprised at how well he acted in a subtantial role.

    From that I’m betting he’ll get better parts in other movies and become more widely known.

    Yes Karl Yune is in the movie as a bodyguard but I’m not sure if he actually had any lines.

    While Rain certainly had a lot more screen time and dialogue to handle.

    I did read on imdb.com that Rain is filming for the lead role in a movie called Ninja Assasin and it was definitely a stepping stone for him

  • I can name exactly zero Asian actors. I think I'd be liable to make some sort of mistake too.

    That's not to say that all Asians look the same, but I don't really think that's an issue.
