Rivet Productions, an independent film studio in Venice, CA, recently posted to youtube a short promotional video for a new performance poetry concert film called "The Drums Inside Your Chest."

The film features 7 internationally-known performance poets including: Buddy Wakefield (two-time world SLAM poetry champion), Amber Tamblyn (recently nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for her film work), Beau Sia (Def Poetry Jam, Slam Nation), Derrick Brown, Jeffrey McDaniel, Bucky Sinister and Mindy Nettifee.

The live "Drums" show, which took place on August 4, 2007 in Los Angeles, CA, reinvented the poetry show for Los Angeles, moving beyond the competition that has been the mainstay of SLAM poetry in order to simply present amazing and entertaining poets to an audience that doesn’t usually go for poetry.

The "Drums" film takes its cue from rock-n-roll concert films rather than other poetry documentaries, focusing on the excitement of performance and backstage spontaneity of the performers, rather than documenting their biographies, manufacturing conflict or answering portentous questions about poetry & culture.

About the show, Alex Simon of Venice Magazine wrote, "A pretty incredible evening, considering it was sold on the word 'poetry,' which usually makes the general public cringe, myself included. But the sold out venue of more than 500 people, shockingly talented performers and free quality booze from Makers Mark to Svedka, really redefined this type of event as not poetry, but revolutionizing the spoken word platform. Did I mention America Ferrera from Ugly Betty sat right in front of me and her laugh is absolutely infectious?…I look forward to the next one, whole heartedly."

"The Drums Inside Your Chest" Volume II will take place on August 2nd 2008 in Los Angeles and will correspond with the release date of the "Drums" DVD.
