Clinton is the winner in West Virginia

The polls have closed and it was a no-surprise win for the Senator from New York. Hillary is proving she's no "quitter," her campaign said, as she eyed a crushing win in West Virginia. She used her victory to make her case that she's more likely to beat the Republicans in the general election.

Obama conceded the West Virginia primary to the former first lady before official results were in, and moved on to the general-election battleground of Missouri.

  • Being in NY she has fought for a lot of shit against a wall of people who are against her in Albany...

  • I think she is just going through the motions right now. Even though she wins WV and possibly Kentucky, its still a long shot.

  • I’ve heard of sore losers, but this is just ridiculous.

Her legacy is being written by the same people who are writing George Bush’s – both are in defiance.

  • hey she just won the uneducated white vote. maybe she can win this thing... (heavily laden with sarcasm).

    she's still done.

  • watch this comment being used here, here, here, here, here, and here
Wow she won in a state full of ELDERLY WHITE people who (statistically speaking) are terribly uneducated to and racist to the point of near retardation.

  • The sticky wicket there, is that those ppl probably will vote for McCain if Hillary isn't on the ticket...

  • Travis Childers, a conservative "blue dog" Democrat won a house seat in north Mississippi tonight, the first Democrat since Jamie Whitten to win here in a majority white district. This is where I live. Liberal Democrats don't win. Left wing moveon candidates do not win. Conservative "blue dog" candidates do. That is the facts and if the party wants the White House, they better figure it out and fast.

  • I live in north Mississippi. The Republicans did their best to tie him to Obama and Pelosi, television commercials every day, robo-calls from Laura Bush and Mike Huckabee calling him a <gasp> liberal! But he won. Not because he embraced them, because he rejected them. He told people I don't know Obama, never met him, don't know him, I am a conservative. And he won.

  • This is hardly news. Everyone knew Clinton was going to win huge in West Virginia.

Is it a coincidence that West Virginians are notoriously poorly educated?

(Only 17% of West Virginians over the age of 25 have a college degree). http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/departments/elearning/?ar...
    uroborus8
  • Yeah, I have to concur with Goolkasian. If there is a state I'm less proud of than West Virginia, I'm not sure what it is. This proves nothing other than the ability of master politicians like the Clintons being able to charm the uneducated hill-folk.

I want to hear on the news that smart demographics matter! If I were uneducated, I think I'd want to listen to what the smart people had to say, wouldn't you? Jesus, people, we've already elected the village idiot. It didn't work so well!

  • Goolkasian, Please do not insult retarded people by comparing them to West Virginians.
    uroborus8
  • Uroborus8,

Not having a college degree says what?
I hear Bill Gates left college to start Microsoft.
Does that mean he is "uneducated"? Or just a fellow that didn't finish college but built an business empire?

It's because of Coal Miners in West Virginia and Pennsylvaina that much of America has electricity....
  • Hopefully It's about money now. She was hitting up the audience for money to help her "win." I know that she intends to strong arm the super delegates to pull off an upset, but I don't think even she thinks that will work. Today I heard one lady from West Virginia say that her husband told her Bill Clinton took the shirt right off the working mans back with NAFTA, and Hillary would get their underwear if elected. They aren't all dumb.
  • Hmmm.....I think "Current" is starting to show you the pattern you like to see.

  • It looks like she's yelling, "Muahaha look at me...I have no heart...Yet this is where it's supposed to be...[something about not giving up]...MUA HA!"

  • On the one hand, people shouldn't be dissing their fellow Americans like I see in this thread, educated or not. I support Obama but not like that. West Virginians are just as American as any other state. I know from experience that West Virginians work hard. A lot more would get better educations if they could.

On the other hand, to reply to PatrickEdwardMurray, does Bill Gates live in West Virginia? And he was at least admitted to college. Your point about coal works better for me.

    Peace,

  • They actually put on TV someone calling an entire state "retarded"! OH! Are you even trying to win the general election? What assholes!
    JohnA
  • WV will be Clinton's 3rd 20%+ margin win. Meanwhile Obama has won 22 contests by 20% or more.

And please people, stop making this a "women rule" or "girls are awesome" issue. You're buying into the joke and it makes it even more ridiculous. Don't vote for someone based on their gender or their ethnicity. It belittles the entire democratic process.
    expression
  • Belittle the Democratic process? I don't know if you've noticed, but the Democrats are down to the two least experienced candidates they had running. The process was belittled months ago, where have you been?
    JohnA
  • Who said Washington experience is something to strive for? It's not and that's one of the reasons Obama is winning.
  • Hilary took West Virginia...that's sorta to be expected.
    Empty_Tank
  • It is not that they are uneducated I take offense to, it is that they are ignorant racists.

As a state whose main income is source was destroyed by republican policies they still happily vote republican.

    goolkasian
  • That's a pretty broad statement to make. Are you going to say that about every state that doesn't go for Obama in November? Are you prepared to say half of the United States are "ignorant racists"? And you wonder how Obama got the perception of being an "elitest"? 90% of blacks vote for Obama, how is it they are not racists but whites voting against him are?
    JohnA
  • Elitist? YES PLEASE. I want an Elite president.
I want a president who is drastically more elite than I am.
    expression
  • California, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arkansas, Texas, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, Michigan, you're going to tell me all those people are "ignorant racists"? Well, you're not going to go very far in a general election like that, you had best rethink your strategy.
    JohnA
  • Wow, it seems that all the Hillary supporters are in attack mode. I’ll probably get attacked for posting this…
    Pwdrskir
  • Just calling bullshit when I see it. 90% of blacks voting for Obama are educated, informed, and making their decision based on issues, but the 60% of whites voting against him are uneducated, gun toting, bible thumping hick racists. I don't have hip-boots big enough to wade through bullshit that deep.
    JohnA
  • She will really stoop so low to gain victory ....Steven Colbert said it best if Obama gets the nomination Hillary will burst out of his chest (like an Alien from the movie same title) to get the nomination. shameful.

I am from Virginia as we say in VA never confuse us with the uneducated racist hillbillies in West Virginia. PS" Dont insult mentally impaired people with an insult like that. They are must more intelligent than West Virginians.
    gemenilaidback
  • goolkasian...agreed...no sarcasm

  • Me girlfriend is a Feminst and she hates the way Hillary panders to the "battered wife" syndrome and the race card she shamefully played the entire time.

I cant believe you people just want Bush Sr, Clinton male,Bush JR, Clinton wife...don't you people see how you are being manipulated. Obama fought for poor people his whole life as a lawyer hardly elitist. On top of that how would you like paying a fine for not having health insurance when most cant pay for it....well thats what Hillary wants...Who is elitist?? did ya know she worked as a board member for Wallmart? This is a man vs. woman , white vs, black thing its a elite read Clinton thing. USA wake up!

  • JohnA, Don't include Michigan, and Florida in her wins, people didn't have a choice in those states. She has moved into the spoiler column as of today. She can't win and like a terrier dog on a bone, she just won't let go.
  • "....The sticky wicket there, is that those ppl probably will vote for McCain if Hillary isn't on the ticket... "

Many of those people will vote for McCain even if Hillary is on the top of the ticket. These are the "Reagan Democrats" a notoriously fickle lot since they first defected to Reagan in 1980.

Bush won 1n 1984 because he got a very strong turnout from the republican base in the swing states not because he attracted an overwhelming percentage of swing voters.

Hillary cannot win a general election by apealing to swing voters if the base stays home.
    seeker561
  • JohnA, keep in mind that blacks make up only about 12% of the population in the U.S. and surely all 12% is not pro-obama. So whatever youre trying to base your argument on (that obama is winning b/c of the black vote) is pretty much moot.

  • Something tells me that even after they've given the nomination to Obama, if I should be so presumptuous, she's still gonna be kicking and screaming. It seems with Clinton, it's never been about having a democratic presidency this time around. It's always been about her being president. Your draws are starting to show missy, and its full of holes.
    Neghie
  • Tea....my sentiments exactly....12% of the population but the only reason Obama is winning...hmm...could it be educated, middle class people want to vote for Obama...not Hillary because he is the right candidate???OHHH
    gemenilaidback
  • Come on! We all know that McClain is going to win the election. First, check out Obama's age, race and experience; Second, check out Hillary's past experience when she was in the white house, and gender.

The republicans are going to win again because they are going to steal it. Since we the people of this great country allow the first election to stolen and didn't fight for what was right, the republicans feel that they can do it again.

Trust and believe that this race is just a joke.
    cheche_201
  • Once again, Hillary proves that she can convince uneducated people to make stupid decisions....

  • We must give some credit to the Republican owned media for making it appear her campaign (and that of mccain's) candidacy is viable.

  • It's going to be powerfully sad day in November when those that can't embrace the future for their in ability to let go of the past realize we are one giant step closer to not only equality but actual humanity.
    eldamon
  • Of course Hillary won West Virginia She went there twenty-eight times, compared to twice for Obama. If she thinks somehow that win is some sort of mandate she is mistaken. I look for her to do a Lieberman and run on a third ticket when Obama formally gets the nomination. Don't blame the people of West Virginia, they aren't stupid just ill informed.
  • All politics aside, it would be nice of you all to stop bashing West Virginia. I'm not saying that all of your accusations are false. However, it is difficult for some people to recieve an education considering the poor economic circumstances here. Keep in mind that schools are funded by property taxes and because of the high poverty levels, this creates a rather unfortunate cycle for the people here. So why don't you talk a little more about the election and a little less about the "retarded" people of West Virginia.
