Shock turns to anger in the quake aftermath with locals pointing the fingers at those responsible for the 'tofu' texture of the school's that have collapsed. An insulting amount of disaster relief is given by Bush, more worries over terrorism during the Games and in less than half an hour, I find out if I get to stay in the country or leave.
Must be a Wednesday.
Must be a Wednesday.

You also have to keep in mind the lackluster response Bush gave to both the news of the 9/11 attack and the advance warnings of Katrina, as well as the poor follow through of administering aid in gulf areas affected. While it may be desirable to have a president who would do more it's not realistic to expect it from this camp.
What it seems China needs most now is material support much like the French sent as well as an ace team of the world's best rescuers and medical staff. Over the next couple of days all this talk of monetary aid turns really sad as the rescue efforts become recovery efforts and the scrutiny over the actions of those in power gets even sharper. This does not bode well for anyone.-

Wouldn't it be great if the candidates (who have the ear of the nation like no other at this time) launched an effort to collect grassroots donations to send abroad to keep victims, fed, sheltered and on the road to recovery.

aschneider - as always, some good points. although I do see a few areas where the absolute best could be made out of this (have posted it on every other blog, ha), in that this could a) shift attention away from differences and b) allow for a kinder reception of 'foreign aid', be it monetary or constructive criticism.
as for the candidate idea - a good one, but then again, how much trouble have we gotten in for 'stepping in and helping out'? I know they're different, but it still comes down to a place that isn't our own.-
