ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) -- Sudan and Chad will play their World Cup qualifying match as scheduled later this month, FIFA said Tuesday.
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir broke off diplomatic relations with Chad after an attack on his capital city Khartoum at the weekend.
He blames the neighboring country for backing the rebel group from Darfur which carried out the attack.
The governing body of world soccer said the May 31 game at the El-Merriekh Stadium in Omdurman will go ahead as planned.
"We are in contact with the Sudanese Football Association who is hosting the game. Preparations for this match are on track," FIFA spokesman Nicolas Maingot said.
Sudan and Chad were drawn in group 10 of the African qualifying section for the 2010 World Cup last November. The return match is in Chad on Sept. 5.
They will also play Mali and Congo to decide who goes forward to a second phase of matches to reach the finals in South Africa.
