One day after getting ROOTED in West Virginia, a race where the exit polls showed race was a significant factor in Hillary's win--John Edwards is expected to endorse his former opponent Barack Obama, Edwards got 7% of the vote in WV... will this 15 minute endorsement put an end to Hillary's electibility argument?
-
If a Barrack Obama Whitehouse were to occur, what type of roll could John Edwards fill?
-
I love Edwards, but I remain unconvinced that endorsements have much power to sway voters one way or the other.
-
Won't change my opinion one bit if true. Wish he hadn't endorsed if he does but that's his decision.

Oh well. Nader 2008!
-
If there is one endorsement that stands for anything, it is his. He was the only other likely candidate for the democratic nomination behind Hillary and Obama. As well, he's got lots of supporters out there still, and many of them are those blue-collar workers that seem to be supporting Hillary right now. Maybe Edwards throwing his support behind Obama will sway some voters away from Hillary.

This should be the symbolic signal to Hillary that it's over. Not that anyone would care if she wanted to spend the next two months running against John McCain -- but the problem (as always with Hillary) is that she has insisted on traveling the country explaining why Obama is the most evil, inexperienced, America-hating commie that has ever lived and that's why we should vote for her! To which John McCain has run TV ads saying, "Yeah! I agree with what she said. Dems suck! Vote for me!"
Maybe now she'll think it's a good time to stop and actually support the Democratic party against Republican Presidential nominee John McCain? -
I wonder who Elizabeth endorses?
-
I would love it if Edwards were VP or Attorney General.
He could slay those Mega Conglomerates more in AG it seems to me. -

After the endorsement by Naral, Edwards endorsement is symbolic and meaningful and sends a clear message to Hillary.

AG is a good call CarolynGillis. We need someone to breakup Washington and hold people accountable.
Nader wants to debate Obama, link below. -
I hope obama wins. I miss Kucinich.

I think this endorsement is more than symbolic guys. Doesn't Edwards have like 19 pledged delegates? What happens to them now?
-
I'd like to see Edwards as Vice President. It would be nice if he had a hand in helping to shape the administration.
-
Kurka, They go to Obama.

Barack Obama/white-guy-the-working-class-can-relate-to
There's your Democratic ticket in 2008. -
It might've been delayed, but I guess John Edwards got his shipment of jet skis and James Carville has been vaccinated, the extra time was probably the difficulty in getting a muzzle on him so he wouldn't bite.
I don't know if he gave in on the spy job, but he most likely did on having his face on money and having his kids names on holidays.
I think Edwards is going to give the delegates he had even the ones he picked up in the last primary to Obama that would make sense.
-
I'm watching John Edwards endorsement now . . . Obama supports his commitment to ending poverty, ending corporate influence, restoring our standing in the world and ending the war in Iraq . . . this is a very good day!! John Edwards is awesome, he would make a terrific Vice President or Attorney General.

Hillary needs to take a queue from No. 1 tennis player in the world, Justine Henin. She retires immediately today.
“I decided…to stop fooling myself and accept it."
Wow, very classy…

Yes, she should, I hope she will.

Good to have you on board. By the way. There is no way old energy models are going to come back if Obama wins.

I think that it is possible party leaders told them it was time to end it, and that is why he did this tonight. It is the timing I question. If Mr. Edwards truly believed in Obama why wait until today after Clinton won big in West Virginia? Why not endorse him sooner or at all? Especially after his comments just the other day regarding endorsements not meaning much? And his comments on Face The Nation just this past weekend where he stated it was Clinton's personal decision to end her campaign when she thought best?
So, while I respect his decision, I think he did what he thought was best for the "party." And of course, we must always put "party " first. And it is quite ironic that they were announcing this in Michigan where their votes arent even going to be counted. I also noticed Elizabeth was not by her husband's side for this and his remarks about Hillary Clinton's campaign at the beginning of his speech were more like an endorsement for her as well. So I reserve to believe that this was clearly an attempt to end it more than anything else.-

It must be a dark day in Clintonville.
Edwards leans a little too far to the right to make me comfy. But, Obama and Edwards might make a good balance. -

I'm not on board with Obama. He has to prove himself first. He hasn't yet.-

Edwards would make an excellent AG. He would make a better VP and a help to Obama in shaping the administration. He had an excellent platform and would be a big help, plus as a representative of the administration would be a great diplomat to the world. Give him his jet ski and let's get this show on the road.
-
Kurka and Marilynn_Murray - from msnbc:
"Edwards has 19 pledged delegates won in three states: Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. Most of the those delegates have already been selected, meaning they are technically free to support whomever they choose at the party's national convention, regardless of Edwards' endorsement."

Obama supports his commitment to ending poverty, ending corporate influence, restoring our standing in the world and ending the war in Iraq .
Thank you for that observation...
Chique
With Edwards as AG you think Obama will be able to get some things done Jan?
This is the key of course to real change, real HOPE.
This nation will need a majority in the HOUSE and the SENATE and a very strong AG to see truly meaningful change.
-
True theunderground, but they will most likely follow Edwards lead.
-
Why isn't possible that he just thinks Obama is the better candidate and that he felt like this was the time to make his voice heard. I don't think Edwards is as much of a puppet as some of you are making him out to be. Yes he said endorsements don't matter much, but he didn't say the don't matter at all and he never said he wasn't going to endorse a candidate. I also don't think we need to look for secret codes in his speech to learn what Elizabeth thinks. If she thinks differently, I imagine she'll say so.
This was great timing and location on the campaigns part. Edwards has a lot of loyal supporters in Michigan (where the votes WILL count when Obama concedes...which he will do). Allowing Clinton to enjoy her big win last night showed class.
Edwards was great as always...I loved how his theme of two Americas melds with Obama's call for change we can believe in. -
Ohhh Yeahhhhhh

It is not only possible but probable that he thinks Obama is better. He is definatly not a puppet. After Clinton's win and speech last night I was hoping someone would come forward and stop the nonsense, maybe the super delegates? I'm glad he did. She couldn't win and was just destructive. I loved his speech, it gives me reason to hope that there will be change and an easy win in November.

Nonsense? You didn't think it was nonsense when Mr. Edwards said he was in this to the convention. And Mr. Edwards even with all of his integrity and passion to addressing poverty coudn't even get this much media attention when he was a candidate. He had to drop out and promise not to rock the boat and let Obama get the nomination. What a BS process.

I really don't see Edwards as a puppet, either. I think he must really beleive that Obama is the best one between the two. I would love to see him in there as vice president.
JanforGore, you said Obama hasn't proved himself yet - has Hillary? Hillary has done some good things for NY but Obama has done some good things for IL. Being First Lady certainly doesn't make her any more qualified for the position. I'm not trying to pick on you, I would really like to know why you think that way on this.
