"Grand Theft Auto IV is the gravest assault upon children in this country since polio."
-Jack Thompson

Sigh,
Needless to say this comment by Mr. Thompson is a ridiculous one, but I will take the bait and respond.
1)Front cover: Grand Theft Auto
2)Front bottom left corner: MATURE 17+
3)Back bottom left corner: Partial Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol, Blood, Intense Violence
These are stated on every copy. Surely the reading comprehension skills of American adults aren't this dreadful. It is the 21st century; parents must understand that every game isn't as innocent as the Super Mario Brothers franchise. This game is made by adults for adults. You can't find an advertisement from Rockstar Games anywhere that states in any way, shape, or form otherwise. If a child gets his hands on the game it is inept parenting. By the way, I played Grand Theft Auto 3 when I was 14/15 and I am only a hazard to myself.
Seriously, I'm pretty clumsy. Grrr-

Sometimes bad things happen in society, but can you imagine bubble wrapping the world, what about the people that play GTA then switch off the console make a cup of tea and head to work live a full life and never replicate the game in real life… You know “normal people”. Some people like to play the game if you don’t think you can trust your child to loose it and start killing people I am guessing something else is wrong and probably it’s you, the parent, thinking that a video game on it’s own is the sole reason your child is nuts.
P.S. Are you the same parent that thinks the Starbucks logo is evil?!

sithegingersheep-
for the record, i don't agree with this quote, but I posted it because I thought it was:
1-amusing, and
2-worth sharing for discussion -
Hey vavavicky, I didn’t think for a second you did… The “You” was referring to was a rhetorical one as I also don’t think the type of people that would wish to ban the game are the type of people that would be reading such an open forum for discussion… Sorry for the confusion! Si P.S. Amusing yes, worth sharing yes.

Other Jack Thompson quotes to roll your eyes at:
"The Bible doesn't promote killing innocent people, Grand Theft Auto does. Islam does. Islam promotes the killing of innocent people. The Quran requires the infidel, whether Jew or Christian, to be killed. ... That's a core essence of the religion. ... Muhammad was a pirate who killed infidels and who advocated the killing of infidels. Not a nice guy. Osama bin Laden is in keeping with his fine tradition."
"You just watch. There is going to be a Columbine-times-10 incident, and everyone will finally get it. Either that, or some video gamer is going to go Columbine at some video game exec's expense or at E3, and then the industry will begin to realize that there is no place to hide, that it has trained a nation of Manchurian Children."-
