John McCain was not born in the U.S.

"The Senate has unanimously declared John McCain a natural-born citizen, eligible to be president of the United States. That is the good news for the presumptive Republican nominee, who was born nearly 72 years ago in a military hospital in the Panama Canal Zone, then under U.S. jurisdiction. The bad news is that the nonbinding Senate resolution passed Wednesday night is simply an opinion that has little bearing on an arcane constitutional debate that has preoccupied legal scholars for many weeks."

It's funny how a guy that's pushing the Senate to kick immigrants out was born outside of the US.

  • "According to a State Department manual, U.S. military installations abroad cannot be considered 'part of the United States' and 'A child born on the premises of such a facility is not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States and does not acquire U.S. citizenship by reason of birth.'"

"People born in some U.S. territories, such as American Samoa, are not recognized as citizens of the United States."

    Need we say more?

  • That's an interesting turn of events... will the govt now open up the presidency to naturalized citizens? or to immigrants? or will they turn their back on John-boy and make the Elephants choose another candidate? Is Mitt out there rubbing his hands perhaps?

  • not a turn of events. something disregarded long ago.

i would never vote for him (maybe a decade ago) but he is certainly american born and raised.

it's a ploy like B Rock's lapel pin and other assorted unpatriotic shit levied at him. hollow attacks.

    but... i am still drinking.

  • He is a citizen, because his father was serving in the U.S. Navy at the time.

  • No story "under U.S. jurisdiction" means no story.

  • I think it's crazy that the U.S. Constitution does not define what "natural born" citizenship is. WTF? Check out the U.S. Department of State Foreign Affairs Manual (page 8). http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/86757.pdf

Regardless, we've had similar instances before. Barry Goldwater ran in '64 and was born in Arizona when it was still a U.S. Territory. George Romney ran in '68 and was born to U.S. parents in Mexico.

Oh, how I wish that McCain was ineligible. Then Ron Paul would be the nominee by default and the media would have to cover him!

  • I think we should keep him in because we know who we are dealing with and think he is beatable.
What would happen if some Ronald Reagan incarnate came in now?

  • watch this comment being used here, here and here
When John McCain was born, there were only 13 actual states . But they were called colonies back then.
Its not his fault that the US hadn't established firm borders in that era yet.

    lol

  • No one follows the rules now-a-days. That is the way the U.S. government is . Look at the drugs the Us Gov is giving foreigners illegally for their way home (there is an article about it on my site momsword.org).

I have given up really with who is running. I used to care but now it is just boring to watch and listen. The same crap said over and over again.

  • The United States Constitution has 3 rules in order to become president.
    1. You must be 35 years old or older.
    2. You must live in the US for 14 or more years consecutively.
    3. You must be a natural born citizen of the USA.
This does not mean you have to be born in the US.
Arnold Schwarzenegger can't be president because neither him nor his parents were born the USA.
If one of John McCain's parents were born in the United States, then that makes him a natural born citizen and he is eligible to become president. If he is over 35 years old. lol

  • I am not a fan, but if it were who I want for president...

wow, sad day if he gets kicked off or put down for a stupid technicality. He was born in a MILITARY hospital after all. Forgive his father for serving the country outside the US.

  • Momsword, don't stop payin attention and stop caring. This is exactly what they want to happen! That way they can do anything they want!

  • There are a lot more substantial reason to not like John McCain then where he was born. Besides his father being in the military at the time makes him a citizen and eligible to be prez. Note, that's eligible not qualified.

  • Haha! They're all hypocrites!

...wait thats not funny at all.

  • Why is McCain's place of birth even an issue? He's a Republican!

I've been under the impression for several years that even the gods themselves must surrender to the laws of humankind, whereas the Republicans get a hall pass on those unless they've been caught boinking (a) pages, (b) hookers, (c) hustlers or (e) all of the above or "Others". McCain, however the frisky little ferret he may have been, cleared that hurdle several months ago.

He's a Republican. As the presumptive nominee for presidential candidate hailing from Gods Chosen People (not the Jews the other Chosen People. the Republicans) he's impervious to all things short of an adverse health event.

Being almost three quarters of a century old, even the greatest, holiest and most omnipotentest deified Republican would find the challenge daunting when saving McCain from a nasty head cold.

He could have been born on the far side of Mars for all the difference it would make.

    He's a Republican for crissake!

  • It's correct that McCain was born outside of the US, but you are incorrect when you say he wants to kick immigrants out of the US.

"Legislation now being drafted by lawmakers — primarily Sens. Ted Kennedy and John McCain — would allow millions of illegal immigrants in the United States to apply for citizenship. Adoption of this measure would be a terrible mistake."

One big problem with Americans are our incredibly short term memories.

  • Ok this is going to sound sinical but here we go. I live in jackass ville Florida. You know the state that did not follow the rules for the primaries,oh yeah and the state that got F'd in 2000 over a hanging chad deal. Well now the state wants us to believe that these new E voting machines will work with out flaw. Paper did not work so we will go with a machine that is programmed by a company (dieblod. they make atm's.) and only they have the software and therights to deal with it. The same software hacked by a guy a while back in california with a blackberry. Man to much crap to deal with and there is enough reasonable doubt. Now you are going to tell me the guy was born in central america. Well here is one more for you. I lived in Az before moving to FL and it is a mess. The stuff you see on your tv isn't the half of it. Doesnt matter who is running. Who ever they want to win will. Or if it is your turn. I Do like Obama but if you want to get technical Gore is sill my president so we need to re-writ history anyways. thats it from Captain Sinical

  • Have you noticed how McCain's body language around George Bush? He acts like a child - a terribly aged child.

If he walks like a duck...

  • Maybe the Democrats can use this as a talking point coming up in a few weeks?
