We Won Marriage!!

Today is a day I will never forget.

It is with unimaginable joy that I write to tell you that the California Supreme Court just ruled in our favor, declaring that each of us has the freedom to marry the person we love.

This is a landmark victory for our community. It’s a victory for fairness and justice. And it’s an incredible victory for California—a land of opportunity. For 10 years, Equality California has worked tirelessly to bring us to this moment. Today, for the first time in history, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Californians are truly equal. It is an amazing feeling.

I wish we could simply celebrate and enjoy this incredible victory.

But the truth is, this is just the beginning of the fight of our lives. Anti-LGBT hate organizations are already hard at work trying to pass a constitutional amendment this November in an attempt to take away our freedom to marry. And they have already raised millions of dollars to fund their discriminatory effort.

We can’t let that happen. We won’t let that happen.

It will take all of us to keep this victory. Make a contribution today to help preserve the freedom to marry from this vicious attack. Every dollar you donate will be used to fight this initiative.

Equality California Issues PAC is with a coalition of organizations working to defeat this initiative. Your donation today will help us buy media time and hire more field organizers across the state to mobilize the thousands of volunteers who have already gathered more than 76,000 signatures opposing the initiative.

Today’s victory proves that by working together we can achieve equality.

Our win today would not have been possible without the generous commitment and steadfast support of our thousands of volunteers and donors. And I cannot say enough about the brilliant legal team representing EQCA as a plaintiff in the case: National Center for Lesbian Rights, Lambda Legal, ACLU, Heller Ehrman and the Law Office of David C. Codell.

Help us keep marriage in California by making a donation today to fight the ballot initiative. As a united force, we will forever have equality in our state.

Once again, thank you for supporting EQCA in the fight for equality. I have never been more proud to be a part of this community. I have never been more proud to be a Californian.

Warmly,

Geoff Kors
Executive Director
Equality California

  • Excellent, excellent news!!

  • Great news finally equal rights for all. They deserve the same rights and dignity as everyone else. We won't truly be free until there are no exclusions for rights in America. Remember Gavin Newsom today. Without his courage this day wouldn't be.
  • Equality... for EVERYONE??? what a concept.

    Congratulations.
  • Great news!
We are finally moving in the right direction..I loved Rosie's Cruise!
It let me peek into some of the lives of gay families and all the same problems we "normal" (haha) people have plus more on top of that imposed by.. who knows.
I would like there to be more shows like that.
We have lots of gays in our family and I hope it helps them too.
    Congratulations to all!!!!

  • DANCING IN THE STREETS HURRAY HURRAY HURRAY!!!

We will be celebrating in Oregon but holding our breaths. We have two ballot measures that are trying to destroy the meager, domestic partnership law and hate crime legislation that was passed last year.

They are trying to pass a constitutional amendment in Oregon to ban any kind of same sex unions or partnerships or whatever.

Help us by writing letters to our legislature in Oregon demanding inequality not be written into our State Constitution.

  • This is a move in the correct direction. People are individuals and should be treated as such. When their actions, belifs, or opinions come to adversly affect you, then a problem is to be had. The benefits go beyond just saying "We are together" or "We are civilly united". It helps economically, legally and so on. I cheer on those in California and Oregon and elsewhere who strive for rights of not only the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered community, but everyone. Freedom and liberty are at stake here, even if those more "traditonally minded" dont see it that way. To quote MLK jr.: "Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed."
  • Marriage was the only union that created new life and connected the children to their own mother and father.

What homosexual got today from these judges is just the empty coffin of extinction.

    Welcome to Condom and California

Natural families will create a new name and new identity for their unions. Let's move out of the pink states

  • Homosexuality has been part of humanity for eons and yet they have been the scapegoats of history, while at the same time bringing to you the best works of art, literature, science, and philosophy.

You go right ahead and move away from the pink states, you people haven't learned to play fairly with others, and it is you who should be isolated from the rest of society who practices "live and let live".

I can't really say that we would miss you. Sorry.

  • Plus there never will be a shortage of heterosexual baby makers what with some of you having 18 babies and more. Most of you dare not even use birth control because one more soul may not get a chance to have a life. And your god will be very angry with you if you aren't fruitful and multiply and destroy the earth.

  • How hard is the concept of equal rights for everyone to understand? It isn't equal rights for everyone unless it offends me. It means just what it says. Why won't people mind their own damned business?
  • Jubal-

I am sorry but I do not think you have the qualifications to speak for someone that is or has raised a family successfully

Your negative comments on religion are really you own projections of what you think other believe.

Where did you live and let live has taken you so far ?

  • soleil10, go off and create your own name for marriage. Me I'm sticking with what we have, and I welcome the gay community to join me. Why would any decent person want to deny equal rights to others?
  • Marylinn-

We always hear about rights !

    What about responsibilities ?

Every child has a right to be raised by their own Father and own mother.

In my book their rights come before ours.

The ME generation has done enough damage already

    soleil10
  • Marylinn- I already did many years ago.

Marriage was doomed when the no fault divorce started.

The government and the courts have been against marriage for a long time and now they want us to pay for it.....good luck.

  • I am very well qualified to speak about family matters as I have helped raise 10 children and they are all doing quite well thank you. In my family, although I am bi-sexual and part of the LGBT or GLBT community (whether you put ladies or gents first I guess is why the acronyms are different) I am the head of a large family. I have had to be the bread winner and have at times had to carry three jobs. I know plenty about responsibility. Do you think I live in a vacuum? My family, numbering around 30 or so, loves me unconditionally with the love of Jesus Christ.

I am anti Religion, that is true, but I am 100% a believer in God, however the God I serve is benevolent the God of light and love who judges no man, while the God Jehovah that you serve is a malevolent God who tortures and kills his followers in the name of righteousness and holiness. I won't quote to you the thousands of biblical references to Jehovah's tyranny because you will have some rationalization to retort; but rest assured that if a trial were to be held today and your God were put on trial he would be found guilty of murder, because he has been a murderer from the very beginning of the creation of the cosmos. Jesus himself told the Pharisees that their father was Satan himself. John 8:44

The mother Catholic Church and her protestant daughters all follow the same god of the Israelites and the Muslims; the god Jehovah; god of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But where does Jesus fit in?

Jesus said "you will know them by their fruits," hating homosexuals and denying them equality is a blaring OOPS that contradicts the fruits of the spirit and Jesus's definition of Love as revealed by the Apostle Paul. Jesus said "love your enemies and pray for those who curse you." 1 Corinthians 13 describes what love is, and today's Abrahamic religions do not manifest this love as a fruit of their spirits. They instead practice every sort of vile judgment, hate, and war; murdering innocents in the name of Jehovah.

Tell me Soleil10, when was the last time that you were cursed by homosexuals? What harm have homosexuals done to you personally? Where is the love that Jesus talked about with regard to homosexuals?

You cannot serve two masters, the Law and Love. For you will hate the one and love the other. You cannot bring forth sweet and salt water from the same source. God cannot be both evil and good at the same time. So obviously the bible is talking about two distinct gods. One of love and one of law.

Jehovah gave the law, Jesus gave the love.

You cannot continue to follow Jehovah and call yourself a Christian, that is an oxymoron, a contradiction.

I am all to familiar with what other's believe. You yourself have made manifest your beliefs when you render your judgments and verdicts in this forum.

The bible is the book I have most studied in my life because I used to believe in Jehovah because I was terrified of him, however now that his true nature has been revealed to me and the confusion has been lifted from my eyes, my life has become living truth and I manifest the fruits of the Holy Spirit on a daily basis.

  • Marilynn,

This is what I believe about Marriage. The government should get out of the Marriage game and give it back to the Religions.

In the United States everybody should be given Civil Unions whether straight or gay. If people want a marriage, then have them go to their church to be married. This is a civil rights issue and everybody is equal.

Human beings can have Civil Unions with all the rights and responsibilities that entails, while Religions can govern the marriages and issue marriage certificates according to their beliefs. If they want to believe that their union is blessed and holy, then let em, but the government is not in the business of establishing religion; if they were following the Constitution.

Marriage is a religious institution. Civil Unions are what should be available to everyone, equally.

I think your soul is ill and you act like you're ten.
Your only arguement against gay mariage seems to be that they cannot, by themselves, procreate.
Boooring. We've heard it all before. Think of something new. Is your next arguement gonna involve earthquakes?
If this were a valid reason for denying the civil right of marriage, neither sterile people nor menopausal women would be allowed to marry.
In addition, gays and lesbians can adopt. Face it, not every child is gonna end up with both a mother and a father. Do you have any idea how many ophan are currently bouncing around the foster care system?
I don't know about you, but I happen to think that gay parents are better than no parents and if every state allowed gay adoption, there'd be a lot more children with parents.
    VitaminB2
  • Also, soul ill, I'm tired of this whole, "ME generation" bulls@%t. What the does that even mean? You think it's selfish for someone to marry the person they love and start a family with them?
    VitaminB2
  • Jubal- I do agree with you that civil unions would have been acceptable. Unfortunately the gays activists want to destroy marriage for everyone. Ultimately they want to destroy gender because they are confused about their own.

The purpose of Gay marriages is to destroy healthy families behind the slogan "love is Love"

  • Jubal-

The God that I believe in is not the Jeovah you are describing. He is not sitting on a throne separated from man. He is grieving for His children and in great pain.
From the beginning God our heavenly parent lost his first family and has been working relentlessly to restore it. Jesus came as a second Adam but was murdered before he could start a new sinless lineage.

Yes Jesus said that we want to do the deeds of our Father the devil. I personnaly believe that he is behind the spirit of homosexuality as he want to stop God in any way he can.

I do not hate homosexuals. We are unfortunately in a spiritual war for the soul of this nation's families.

Tonight I spoke to my daughter who choose a course on men and masculinity. She is now very troubled because instead of the course, she expected it became a course on homosexuality taugt by an homosexual. I am paying for my own child to be abused because she needs to graduate. That is the way I am being cursed by an homosexual who is working on my own child. She has 24 hours of course left.

  • VitaminB2-I do not think that you have read many of my comments against gay marriage.

Concerning gay parenting, you should read "Out from Under" by Dawn Stefanowicz , "The impact fo Homosexual Parenting" Her experience is not unique.

On her website, she wrote that from a young age, she was exposed to explicit sexual speech, self-indulgent lifestyles, varied GLBT subcultures and gay vacation spots, bathhouse sex, cross dressing, sodomy, pornography, gay nudity, lesbianism, bysexuality, minor recruitment, voyeurism and exhibitionism, Sado-masochism was alluded to and often demonstrated.

She did not see the value of biological complementing differences of male and female

"What makes it so hard for a girl to grow up with a gay father is that she never gets to see him, honoring or protecting the women in his life" writes Dawn in her book.

She advocates lesgislation to protect children.

The 4 judges in California do not seems to care for chidren and their futur identity as a male or female.

This does not mean than a gay person does not have a good heart and be a loving individual.

The issue is that he or she cannot offer the environment that a child needs to grow up.

The illusion that gay parents will be better that their natural parents is part of the deception we are sold over and over.

  • To sum up my opinion.

How many people do you know whose marriage was ended because of gay marriage?
From what I'm hearing, you think homosexuality is the work of the devil. What do you base this of? The bible only really talks about it in Levidicus, which is also the chapter that tells us to sacrifice goats. Because of these few words in the bible, so many people have been killed, disowned, or have commited suicide.
As far as parenting goes, the American Psychological Association, Child Welfare League of America, American Academy of Pediatrics, and many other relevant professional organizations believe LGBT parents to be as qualified as heterosexuals.
As for Dawn Stefanowicz, there is no absence in crappy childhoods in the children of straight parents. In a study of 269 cases of child sex abuse, only two offenders where found to be gay or lesbian. More relevant was the finding that of the cases involving molestation of a boy by a man as seventy-four percent of the men were or had been in a heterosexual relationship with the boys mother or another female relative. The conclusion was found that "a child's risk of being molested by his or her relatives' heterosexual partner is over one hundred times greater than by someone who might be identifiable as being homosexual."
I believe I have won that arguement.
    VitaminB2
  • VitaminB2- The whole bible is the story of God creating a male and a female (in his image) as the pinnacle of his creation in order to build an ideal family that can return joy to him.

    God cannot experience love alone

The first family (A&E) failed, became sinful and created a dysfunctional Family. (genesis)

The rest of the Bible (99%) is about God trying to rebuild His original family.

Jesus came as a second Adam but was murdered before he could start a new sinless linage.

He also said that a man and woman shall become one.
It is the same message all throughout the bible.

As I said ,the whole bible is about God trying to build true families.

Homosexuality is directly in opposition to God's purpose for His creation.

Satan became our second father. He has many hooks on all men, not just homosexuals. Everything he can do to destroy God's hopes and dreams of true love, he will try

Gay marriage is just one more attempt against God's heart. It is just a counterfeit.

The orignal sin has to do with the misuse of love. Every body struggle with sexuality trying to have true maculinity and true femininity.

These 4 judges in California have no clue what they are doing. One day they will realise it and have so much regret.

One of the main gay plaintif in the case had already divorced. Still the case went on

We are spiritual beings first. Sexual relations are not only physicals and emotionals but more importantly spirituals.

    God or Satan is there.

You will not find verses in the bible that tell man to sleep with man, get married, create a family etc...

Between, life, love and lineage, lineage is more important. At the end of our life having our own grand children is such a great fulfilment.

The debate is not about who is worse between a depraved heterosexual or homosexual person.

    soleil10
  • soul ill-
You completely made that up. Nowhere in the bible does it say that Satan invented gays to destroy God. That doesn't even make sense.
Here's the differce between you and me. I get my information from actual sources. There are people who have been together for decades, but haven't been allowed to marry because people like you are afraid to get informed, to know the truth. People like you use twisted logic, not fact.
Also, the government is not based upon Christianity, there is no legal reason to not allow gays to marry.

If you believe that gay marriage is so wrong, then don't get gay married.

If you want to speak about facts and truth, then start by not twisting my words.

Then what do you mean? Face it, just like anyone else whose opposes gay marriage, your arguements are weapons-grade sh!t. I've won and you've lost. In your face.
