The same, largely un-cool Toyota model has been seeing a rapid growth in year-on-year sales, and they are now flying out of showrooms.
The Prius has been sold in Japan since 1997, and in the US since 2000 where it sold a mere 16,000 units. Last year's sales topped 183,000 and so far 107,000 have been sold this year.
Is it the fact that every celebrity has one? Is everyone beginning to love our planet?
Whatever the reason, Toyota will continue to produce the gas/electric hybrid, and the 3rd generation model will be introduced January 2009 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
