Ron Paul tried to warn us about the dangers of the students and followers of Leo Strauss, the Neoconservatives.

"Resistance to illegal and unconstitutional usurpation of our rights is required. Each of us must choose which course of action we should take: education, conventional political action, or even peaceful civil disobedience to bring about necessary changes. But let it not be said that we did nothing. Let not those who love the power of the welfare/warfare state label the dissenters of authoritarianism as unpatriotic or uncaring. Patriotism is more closely linked to dissent than it is to conformity and a blind desire for safety and security. Understanding the magnificent rewards of a free society makes us unbashful in its promotion, fully realizing that maximum wealth is created and the greatest chance for peace comes from a society respectful of individual liberty." ~ Congressman Ron Paul, M.D.

While I essentially agree with his observation and definition of the neocon movement, I do disagree on one point. He says that welfare is supported by the neocons, however Reagan, Bush Sr., and Bush have all continually slashed welfare and oppose the so called "welfare state". Unless there is some broader definition of welfare that he is employing I really can't see how neocons seriously support welfare.

Brad149 I could be wrong but I believe he was referring to Israel, the welfare state. In other words, the Neocons have made it a focus to fund Israel with even more military and financial aid.
