Republican John McCain made some bold statements in a speech he delivered to supporters in Columbus, Ohio. McCain stated his intention to defeat al-Qaida, find Osama bin Laden and create a system whereby Americans could choose to pay a flat tax or follow their standard 1040 form. The Arizona senator has since been criticized by his democratic counterparts Senators Clinton and Obama for not offering a new strategy for dealing with the war in Iraq. The democratic candidates believe troop withdrawals on a mass scale is the correct course of action whereas McCain believes that America can win the war and suggests that troop withdrawals suggested by the Democrats will only hurt America in the long run.
