I think that the reason why Edwards endorsed Obama is because he is a man and they don't want Hillary to be a President because she is a woman.

  • We are way past that. Edwards came out for Obama because he believes he is the best candidate, and the Jet Ski. We will have a woman president one day, just not Hillary. We shouldn't vote for or against anyone because of race or gender ever. People want policy change in Washington, Hillary does not represent that to the voters, so they aren't going to nominate her. That is the reason, it has nothing to do with being a woman it has to do with being in Washington, DC too long being associated with everything people are tired of.

Ha! Momsword, I have to disagree with you there. I think that Hillary's plan and approach to politics are diametrically opposed to Edward's. He chose the candidate who's policies he was most closely allied with.

John Edwards was running on an anti-corporate campaign, with a goal of shaking up the "old politics" in Washington. To fight for the poor and middle class, he set out to remove the corporate lobbyist's influence on public policy.

As laid out by Forbes Magazine (which I can't find anywhere online now), Hillary is closer than any candidate to the Business elite in America. Big business has a strong interest in getting Hillary elected, not John Edwards.

You do point out a few things in your article that I know to be true. But then you allow your personal bias- perhaps your love for Hillary or your love for women- to get in the way.

I'm all for the best "person" becoming President! I have no bias against a woman becoming President. Heck, my MOM was a woman. And she ran a pretty tight ship.

  • no it isn't you who thinks that a woman shouldn't be president, I am sure it is the people in politics who think a woman shouldn't be president because they feel a woman isn't ready.

thats the way I see things because I worked in politics.
Honestly they are both boring. Actually anyone running this time is boring no matter if they are Dem. or Rep.

  • Perhaps it's because Edwards, being a man whose policies and politics are forever shaped by his childhood spent in poverty, feels he has more in common with the former labor organizer than with the woman who was born into privilege and made $109 million last year. Just a guess though.

  • None of them can accurately be described as boring. This in fact the most exciting election in a very long time. The future of our country is at stake and we need to be paying attention and getting active to make sure we have a bright future. Those people are not for entertainment value, one is in fact going to lead our country. Where they lead us is up to us.
  • Why would a feminist vote for Hillary Clinton? Yes shes a woman, but she is on way a feminist. Momsword, if you worked in politics, then yes I'm sure you've seen how its a man's world - how conniving and ruthless would a woman have to be to get to Hilary's position right now? having a vagina does not make you a feminist. Being a corrupt, conniving, elite, entrenched, and morally questionable female candidate does not mean that Hilary deserves your vote because she is the first female to ask for it.

  • This is a 'conspiracy' cooked up by the Clintonistas to keep Billary in the limelight long enough to settle that $22 million tab she's run up campaigning BADLY for the nomination. Face it, Moms, as ready for a woman to be President as America most certainly is, Hillary Rodham Clinton is just not the woman the majority of the nation wants in the slot. And, that reality has nothing to do John Edwards or Barak Obama.

Although, I must give John Edwards mad props for his timing on that endorsement. His endorsement took that prideful gust of West Virginia wind right out of old Hillary's sails almost magically. Now that the United Steel Workers have followed Edwards' lead, there has been very little media musing about that WV Victory. Nice work, Attorney General Edwards, real nice work indeed!

  • Um this isn't news.

If Edwards chose to endorse Clinton then there'd be people like you pointing out how his views are more in line with Obama and calling him a racist.

Maybe Edwards decided to endorse Obama because he would rather be viewed as a sexist than a racist, or maybe, and I know this is a little wacky, he endorsed Obama because he believes he's the better candidate.
